Herbert P. Kakuske will become athletic director at Montana State Normal College, succeeding John W. Breeden. Kakuske, a Milton College and University of Wisconsin graduate, earned multiple letters in basketball, baseball, and football during college. Beaverhead American Legion post to host mining district veterans for quarterly convention with local auxiliary as hostesses. meeting includes program and city hall business session.

Beaver Grid Sound Faces Initial Test

Beaverhead county high school's inexperienced football team opens the season with a trip to Anaconda on September 28 under Coach Jimmy Harris. Only four veterans return and a small squad to select from, but the Beavers show fight and enthusiasm to overcome the handicap. Home opener is September 30 vs Butte Central with other tentative games against Three Forks Whitehall and Bozeman.

Silver Unit Established At Meeting

A Beaverhead county meeting at Pearl I Smiths office formed a Montana Silver association unit. Rep Joe Metlen helped organize, with C R Brazier outlining aims to restore silver to the U S monetary system. Local chair William Logan and Ross W Emerick named to lead.

City Residents Injured in Glendive Car Crash

Mrs C T Callahan and her daughter Mickey of the city were injured in a car accident near Glendive Sunday evening. Both were taken to Glendive hospital where the girl suffered a compound fracture of the jaw. another daughter and Mrs Callahan were mentioned in the report.

Fall Term at Normal Opens Soon

The autumn quarter at Montana State Normal College starts Monday September 25 with registration. Early registration is set for Saturday September 23 as announced by President Sheldon E. Davis. Officials expect strong student attendance in the two year diploma program and more upper division credits toward the degree. Freshman afternoons are planned in the first week for advising and testing.

Local Young Democrats Club organized in Andrus hotel

A local unit of the Young Democrats Clubs of America was organized last Wednesday in the Andrus hotel. Senator George M. Melton named chairman and Warren M. Stone secretary treasurer. Delegates to the state convention were chosen with others to be picked by a committee. The group plans social and business meetings and invites all Democrats to join. Meanwhile farmer L H Rumbaugh showcased a 2 1/4 pound potato and a 16 pound 2 ounce cabbage from his fields east of the city as examples of record crops.

Details of Dillon lodge No. 16 A F and A M fiftieth anniversary were completed. The celebration is set for Saturday Oct 14 with Masons statewide and grand lodge officers expected. Matron of Valley Is Summoned

Mrs. Mary Rebich, long time Beaverhead Valley resident, died in a Butte hospital after a lingering illness. Born in Austria 53 years ago, she moved to Beaverhead County in 1898 and lived on a ranch south of town. Funeral Mass was held at St. Rose Catholic Church with burial in Mountain View cemetery. she is survived by her husband Mike Rebich Sr and seven daughters including Mrs. Albert Myerle, Mrs. Peter Baker, and Mrs. Joe.

Former Dillon Resident Robert Bears Dies in California

Robert Bears longtime Dillon blacksmith, who moved to California years ago, died in a Hollywood hospital on Sunday September 3. Survived by his widow Hattie Willard and three daughters all residing in California. he was a well known figure in Dillon and across the county.

Cuban Crisis Discussed At Rotary Meeting

Professor Robert E. Albright spoke at the Dillon Rotary Club on current events. He described Cuba’s hostility to American imperialism and the sugar industry slump with 70 percent US ownership. He linked cheap sugar to the island’s mood and urged careful US participation in the upcoming Pan American conference at Montevideo. Beaverhead Bonds Sold by State Bank

Beaverhead county approved the State Bank & Trust company bid of 61 681 57 for the bond issue. The second bid was accepted at par plus accrued interest with 5 percent rate. Special arrangements covered 11 100 of the bonds as county officials and bank leaders conferred. District court action seeks a restraining order on the sale of that amount.

Little Returns From Ring Meet on Pacific Coast

Frank Little former all round athlete of Beaverhead county high school returned from Portland after competing in the Pacific Coast AAU boxing tournament which drew 131 amateurs from 11 western states He reached the heavyweight semifinals before losing a decision to Frank Connelley a 200 pound fighter from the Olympic club in San Francisco who won the tournament

F Hirshy Dies in California After Big Hole Basin Life

Fred Hirshy Jr a prominent stockman from the Big Hole basin died suddenly Friday morning at his La Mesa California home He was born in Switzerland in 1859 and came to the United States in 1880 He lived in Montana from 1894 until 1919 then moved to California with his wife and remained there since He had recently returned to La Mesa after visiting Dillon and the Big Hole basin

Montana seeks federal action on $1.25 million road debentures

The Montana public works advisory board sent three non-federal project requests to the National Public Works Administration for final action. The biggest item is the Montana highway commission plan to sell $1,250,000 of its 1933 gasoline tax debentures to raise funds for a major road oiling program. The state may sell up to $1,500,000 annually for four years, but last year found no buyers and the 1932 block lapsed. the 1933 block has been offered multiple times with $250,000 exhausted at the latest commission meeting.
