The Beaverhead GOP schedules a September 15 kickoff at the Roxy with Frank Hazelbaker urging all candidates and precinct officials to attend. Ralph McFadden professor of music at Montana State Normal College and Billy Steck a 14 year old violinist who wowed a Dillon audience last summer are now on a concert tour in Montana and Wyoming. They left Dillon last Saturday and gave a concert at Havre Tuesday then will play in Lewistown Great Falls Helena and Butte. Billy a former Montana boy has spent the summer visiting relatives in Great Falls.

Obituary: GUS WENGER Died After Illness at Barrett Hospital
Gus Wenger a longtime Big Hole basin resident died after a heart attack during an emergency operation at Barrett hospital about 7:30 last Wednesday evening. Born January 10 1899 at Fox he spent his life in the county as a ranch worker. He served in the navy and in World War II. Survived by five brothers and six sisters, funeral held Saturday at Grace Methodist with Rev. James M. Hunter presiding. Interment at Mountain View cemetery. Pallbearers named Jacobs Boetticher Clemon Stocks Husted Shepherd.

Schools Open As Beaverhead County Begins New Year
Beaverhead County high and grade schools opened Tuesday September 7 ending summer break. Principal D L Johnson reports high school enrollment at 196 students and Superintendent O K Moe notes near 500 pupils in Dillon public schools. Registrations were completed Tuesday and regular classes began Wednesday. A 36 member football group answered the call to practice under Coach Jim Taylor.

The 1948 Dillon rodeo drew large crowds over Sunday and Monday with good weather, smooth events, and strong Western fellowship. Amateur preliminaries Friday featured Diana Squires winning a tumbling act, followed by prize results in parade contests and a queen crowned Sunday night Wanda Glassey. Dell matron Nellie J. Jones dies after brief illness
Nellie J. Jones wife of Herbert W. Jones died at her ranch home near Dell last Friday afternoon after a brief illness. Born in Morse New York August 20 1879 she had lived in Hamilton since 1917 and moved to Beaverhead county. She was a Rebekah lodge member of Hamilton. Survived by husband two brothers and a sister in Massachusetts and a sister in law Mrs Emma Stark of Hamilton present for the funeral. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Brundage chapel with Rev J Thompson Baker of the Presbyterian church officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery.
