Dillon Hereford Show and Sale scheduled in October

The Dillon Hereford Show and Sale plan forms for October 21 and 22 at the Beaverhead county fairgrounds. Sixty seven bulls entered, including 37 in the Montana Futurity and 37 in the open class, with Herb Chandler of Baker Oregon as Futurity judge and H B Sager of Bozeman as auctioneer.

Crowded Rodeo Dances Draw Big Weekend Crowds

Dillon's city hall auditorium hosted two rodeo dances sponsored by the Citizens' Committee. Nearly 300 couples attended Saturday's event and even more joined Sunday night's dance. Food concessions ran day and night at the city and fairgrounds, with Veterans of Foreign Wars in the Johnny's cafe annex under construction and American Legion stands at the Waldorf store and the fairgrounds.

Beaverhead County Man Antone Banneyer Dies at 90

Antone Banneyer, 90, longtime Beaverhead County resident for six decades, died yesterday at the county farm where he lived as an inmate. Born January 15, 1855 in East Bristol Wisconsin, he came west as a young man in 1885 working as a wagon maker and later ranching. Survived only by a Wisconsin nephew, his funeral is set for 10 am tomorrow at Brundage chapel with interment in Mountain View cemetery. News of visiting relatives from California accompanies the notice.

War Price and Rationing Boards Consolidated in County

The Lima Wisdom and Dillon boards merge as the district OPA ends twenty five local boards. Plans for annual Beaverhead ram show and sale outlined

Plans nearly complete for the Beaverhead ram show and sale at Dillon fairgrounds on Monday September 17. The show starts in the morning and the sale begins at 1 pm with over 250 rams entered from breeds including Columbia Rambouillet Hampshire and more. Auctioneer L B Sedwich of White Sulphur Springs will preside. participants include Montana Agricultural Experiment Station Roy T. Haines Mt Haggin Livestock and others. Silver Star for Dillon Vet Highlights War Service

Dillon native Sgt. Dale V. Stinson of the U S Marines earned the Silver Star for gallantry on Tinian in 1944. He reorganized his squad at a 37 millimeter gun under fire, refused aid after a shoulder wound, and helped repel a strong enemy attack. Also noted is rising Beaverhead County enrollment as term opens with 209 high school students registered and classes beginning at both high school and primary buildings.

Cupid Keeps Clerk of Court Busy Past Week

Dillon girl Mary Beth Smith won first place in the dairy foods division of the district 4-H club contest in Missoula, with her cheese salads of victory meals demonstration earning $5 in war stamps. Joan Smith of the Bitter Root 4-H club represented Beaverhead county in the dress revue at the Missoula event.

Labor Day Parade In Dillon Features Colorful Pageant

Frequent applause and gasps accompanied the Dillon Labor Day parade along Idaho and Montana streets. The mile-long march included Beaverhead county service members, the high school band, rodeo officials, 100 cowboys, 40 women in western garb, a juvenile division led by Adm. Halsey, patriotic entries, antique vehicles, a gypsy wagon, and a flag raising scene. Prizes totaling 450 dollars were awarded to winners across categories, with many winners awaiting prize claims.

Dillon Rodeo Draws Record Crowds at Beaverhead Fairgrounds

Beaverhead County fairgrounds hosted Dillon’s annual rodeo over Sunday and Labor Day to record crowds. Johnny Reynolds of Melrose won finals in bronc riding. Charley Welch of Wolf Creek and Frank Fox of Twin Bridges tied for third. Mel Icenoggle of Twin Bridges earned the all around cow boy award. Oral Zumwalt and Tex Smith posted top calf roping times. The Beaverhead band and veterans participated amid tough bucking horses and a bustling opening scramble each day.

Chapter of D A V May Be Formed in Dillon

Ten Beaverhead veterans signed as charter members to form a local Dillon chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. Organizer M W Goss spent days here, with future members including Pete Piazzola as commander and Lew D Brundage as adjutant treasurer. Visiting D A V members sold forget me not badges during the rodeo to aid disabled veterans.

Mayor Vandegrift Officiates First Wedding

Dillon's Mayor O T Vandegrift who took office last spring officiated his first wedding yesterday morning. He joined Miss Bonnie McAfee and Leland Hansen of Idaho Falls in a ceremony at the mayor's home. Attendants were Belve Christensen and Dorothy Humphreys. The bride wore a brown suit with red accessories and a white gladiola corsage. Bridesmaids wore rose corsages.

Wilbur and Olson Treated at St James Hospital

Bert Wilbur was taken to St James hospital in Butte last Thursday for treatment. His daughter in law Mrs Melvin Wilbur received treatment there but was released Sunday. Chris Olson is also a patient at St James.

Sunday Services Set at Grace Methodist Church

Grace Methodist Church will hold its first Sunday evening service on September 16 led by Rev. James Hunter of Anaconda. A regular Sunday evening schedule follows with assistants Rev. H. B. Ricketts of Butte and Rev. Magee of Butte contributing one Sunday each month.

Activity Center Arrangements To Be Made Tomorrow

Plans for resuming activities at the students recreation center in the city hall auditorium will be discussed at an initial Beaverhead county high school meeting in Room 101 at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. All previous committee members urged to attend. Mrs. Ben Davis, chairman of the local American Legion sponsoring auxiliary, will lead the session. Miss Betty Dougherty of Elliston, Mont., visited Dillon with her sister Miss Mary Cherty.
