Willard Arthur Brown 23 fled Beav erhead County and Dillon to Idaho last Saturday night holding Laura Shafford 25 hostage. She was rescued Sunday near Monida. Brown surrendered to Idaho officers near Lava Hot Springs as FBI filed kidnapping charges in Pocatello and Butte accusing him of abducting Laura Shafford. Death penalty possible on conviction.

Plans to test Beaverhead county school children with Mantoux intradermal skin tests are nearly complete. Mrs. Sylvester P. Meade leads the effort with teachers distributing consent cards for parents to sign. Tests will be done by Dillon doctors in Jackson Lima and Dillon with transportation arranged by the county TB and Health Association. Tests take place November 18 in Dillon and Lima and November 20 in Jackson with results read November 21 to 22. Rural grade pupils are tested at the local high school and read at Bagley school.

Halloween Parties At High School Dance And Movies

Death by self-inflicted carbon monoxide poisoning
John A. McDonald a 46 year old Spokane radio and television technician was found dead in his car beside U S Highway 91 near the city’s southern edge. Coroner Raymond Schwartz ruled the death a self inflicted carbon monoxide poisoning. A hose from a vacuum cleaner extended from the exhaust through a rear window. He left three notes in the car.

Hunter Killed As Truck Overturns On Hill Near Shenan Creek
Kenneth Schmidt 28 a Dillon area miner and former Dillon resident was killed when his pickup rolled over on a steep hillside near Shenan Creek in Horse Prairie at about 9 am Sunday. He hunted with Floyd Sykes and Melvin Rose. Sykes found Schmidt after the crash. Sheriff and Brundage Funeral Home aided. Schmidt’s body sent to Twin Falls, funeral planned in Kimberly. He leaves a wife and two young daughters Teresa and Kathryn. He previously worked for W M Gaylor under Minerals Engineering Co. This marks the county’s first hunting related fatality this year.

Thirty six fine Herefords sold for a total of 20180 dollars at the 20th annual Hereford bull show and 17th Montana Futurity event. The average price was 560.56 dollars, up from last year’s 444.19. The Futurity champion from Lewis and Jarboe of Bozeman brought 2000 dollars from Grassland Hereford Ranch of Drummond, the highest price since 1952. Lee Livestock Co. of Reno paid 1600 dollars for Becker Herefords of Wilsall. County agent Ed Atkins predicted stronger prices due to high quality stock and market demand for herd sires.
