The American Legion auxiliary held a successful Monday night meeting at the L. D. 8. church. A business session preceded the initiation of eight candidates: Mrs. W. S. Gorman, Mrs. Glen Lyone, Mrs. Louis Schmit troth, Mrs. William McMannus, Mrs. Rose Sin Claire, Mrs. C. M. Bonnafield, Mrs. H. J. Bostwick, and Mrs. Leroy Gilbert. A large gathering enjoyed entertainment in the basement.

Boy Scouts Honor Roosevelt at Local Exercises

Boy Scouts paid tribute to Theodore Roosevelt, one of the organization’s original sponsors, during a Monday night program at the training school auditorium. Hon. Frank Eliel delivered a rising address on The Life of Roosevelt, with Melding Graves offering a Roosevelt tribute. Beaverhead County High School Band and State Normal College Glee Club performed, Rev F X Lechner led singing, colors were posted and retired, and slides on Roosevelt and Scouting were shown.

In 1921 Tom Gilbert recounts prosecuting Young E Hurt for cattle theft, with a jury convict and a two to five year sentence. He notes Hart captured near the Mexican border after a major search by Sheriff Dan Mooney’s deputies and extradition.

Death of Alvin C. Reeves at 65 in Dillon

Alvin C. Reeves aged 65 died last Thursday morning at his East Glendale home after a lingering illness. Heart trouble caused his death. A Dillon resident for about two and a half years he worked as a harness maker at Johnson Trading Co after moving from Kalispell. Born in Toronto Kansas he leaves a widow and several relatives. Funeral was held Saturday at Brundage chapel with Rev. T. J. Simons officiating and burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Red Cross Roll Call Opens Armistice Day in Beaverhead

Ambret Eliel, Red Cross chairman for Beaverhead county, outlined plans for the annual membership drive from November 11 to 20. The event includes a dance at the auditorium with Baxter Tonrey orchestra and a Majestic radio raffle. Community chairmen will be named to organize the drive ahead of the kickoff.

Dillon Educator Elected President of Montana Education Group

Principal W. W. Wahl of Beaverhead County High School was elected president of the western division of the Montana Education Association at the annual Butte convention. About 60 Dillon educators attended the event, with many taking active roles.

Galen Methodists Plan Golden Anniversary Celebration

Hundreds attend as the Galen Methodist Episcopal church gears up for its golden anniversary next weekend. Montana church leaders including Bishop Wallace Brown of Helena and Rev. Galen Holds Largest Campaign Rally At Hartwig Theatre

Judge Albert J. Galen Republican US Senate hopeful delivered a forceful address at the Hartwig theatre last Thursday night. The rally drew a full house with standing room, and fellow candidates Mark D. Fitzgarrald and Leonard C. Young spoke. Prisoner Escapes From Beaverhead Officer Aboard Train

Frank Allen, 26, escaped from Undersheriff Carl Hartwig while being returned from Idaho Falls. The escape occurred as a northbound Passenger train stopped near Spencer Idaho. Allen gained freedom when granted a lavatory visit and the alarm was raised only after about 30 minutes. Continued on page 8.
