Montana Fish and Game Board Orders Staffing Cuts

The Montana fish and game commission laid off seven deputy game wardens on December 1 and hired the same number in fish hatcheries on November 1 due to funds shortage. Expenditures are cut by about 4900 dollars monthly, with future supply purchases requiring commission requisitions. The board approved park and hatchery improvements and opened most of Yellowstone county, with exceptions. An elk five day season was set for Sanders county, while Meagher county elk and Meagher fishing areas saw changes. Dam construction and condemnation plans were authorized in Miles City and Tongue river areas. The Lake Helena Fish Hatchery will close for winter.
