Candidates Active As Date Nears In Montana Campaign

In Missoula County Professor Ralph McGinnis shifts from criticizing Mike Mansfield on Far Eastern policy to domestic issues. Mansfield, back from Washington, plans western district campaigning as ballots ready for absentee voting. Beaverhead County prepares general election pamphlets and voters will receive them shortly.

Delinquents Ordered Up for Induction in Beaverhead

Four more Beaverhead county selective service candidates have been ordered to report for induction on October 30. Inductees are Clifford Johnson Leonard A Hillier Ralph W Huckabay and Billy Smith who have failed to inform the board of current addresses. The U S department of defense rule forbids enlistment after notification for pre induction examination. Inactive national guard members 19 through 25 must transfer to units to avoid calls for physicals. Local boards told to reconsider classifications and order physicals as needed.

Bagley Junior High holds teachery dance and assembly

Bagley Junior High hosted a Friday dance in the school gym directed by Principal L. E. Walker and Asst. Principal James Womack. Students learned dance etiquette with patterns by Mr. Womack while the Home Economics department provided punch and cookies for students and coffee for adults. Music was by Joe Smith and George Brown. The Thursday assembly for grades four through eight featured Carl M. Davis as speaker addressing perceived Communist influences worldwide.

Ski Meeting Held at Jackson Inn by Northern Rocky Mountain Ski Association

More than fifty members and guests attended a weekend NRMSA meeting at the Diamond Bar Inn in Jackson to discuss the coming winter. Montana and northern Wyoming clubs were represented by figures such as Tony Matt, Nordquist, Harmon, Monte Atwater, William Downs, Harry Reinig, and Dr. Amos R. Little Jr. President T. Lee McCracken led sessions. The NRMSA ski patrol, folded into the Montana Aeronautical Association search and rescue unit led by Chester Anderson, received acceptance of its services.

Dillon-Twin Bridges road project approved for paving

State officials announce federal approval to pave the 11 mile Dillon-Twin Bridges highway section between Point of Rocks and Twin Bridges. The project, favored by Beaverhead leaders, will provide a water level route bypassing Butte and Pipestone Pass, with funding expected next year.

Beavers Defeat Reds 19 6 in Copper City Kickoff

Beaverhead County High School opened its 1950 football campaign with a 19 to 6 win over the Butte Reds on a Thursday afternoon in Dillon. Coach Tyrand and Lou Rocheleau used 22 players, outgaining the Reds with passing and rushing as Vandegrift connected with Rouse for two scores and Ed Thompson added a TD.

First Medics to Register Monday

Draft Board Secretary J. C. Fuller announced a set date for the registration of the first category of doctors dentists veterinarians optometrists pharmacists and osteopaths. Farm youths win awards at Missoula banquet

Sharon Stanchfield of Wise River and Chester Downing of Dillon led 4-H and Ed Thompson of FFA won multiple ribbons and prizes. Ed Thompson placed second in showmanship and beef merit earning merchandise. Sharon won third in beef merit. Chester won a special beef cattle award and first in beef merit earning cash. Awards were presented October 1 at Loyola auditorium with Missoula merchants guest attendees.

Denmark Visitors Return Home

Mr and Mrs Louis Hansen and their son Gene of Alder return from a three month trip to Denmark visiting relatives including Mr Hansen’s mother and a 97 year old grandmother Mrs Carlson Dillon. Shriners Parade Visits Dillon for Potentate Herman Peterson

Members of the Bagdad temple Mystic Order of the Shrine of Butte led a Dillon visit to Shrine Potentate Herman Peterson. A 19 piece band and over 80 Silver Bow and Beaverhead Shriners marched the town with clowns passing out candy balloons popcorn and crackerjack to children. The parade moved from the depot lawn through Montana Glendale Idaho Helena streets to the museum and concluded with a Big Hole beef barbecue at the county fairgrounds.

Grass Roots Meet Scheduled Nov 25 in Diblon

The Montana Stock Growers association plans a Roots Meeting in Diblon on Saturday Nov 25. Rummage Auction Planned by Methodist Church

Plans are completed for the annual rummage auction sale to be conducted by members of the Methodist church this week at the city hall. The sale starts 10 a.m. Thursday and Friday mornings with Luther Smith to cry the auction Saturday at 2 p.m. Free coffee and doughnuts will be provided. The committee reports a good 85 section of clothing and household articles collected.
