Dillon to Host Largest Horse Sale in Montana History

Next week Dillon hosts a multi day horse auction by the Dillon Horse Sale company led by Dr. W C Orr and Clark Anderson. About 1000 head will be offered with buyers from across the country, featuring draft horses saddle horses mules and registered stock. Al Pollinger of Twin Bridges will handle bidding as firms Poindexter Orr Livestock Anderson Bros J G Erwin J W Suther C A Smith and others list horses for sale. The previous sale in spring moved about 50000 worth of stock and drew strong praise from buyers and sellers alike.

A Pretty Wedding at Dillon Stuns Idaho Falls Friends

In Dillon last Sunday a surprise marriage united Henry Gabbe editor of the Idaho Falls Morning Post and Mary McKee once assistant post mistress. The ceremony occurred at the home of T. J. Mulaney with Prof. Reidelaberger and Dr. Martin officiating. reception followed at New Dillon as the couple prepared a brief honeymoon run to Butte.

Council Adopts Sewer Tax and Sprinkling Levy

An adjourned city council meeting with a near quorum approved a special tax levy for the recently built sewer and for sprinkling costs in 1907. Reports for September were referred to the finance committee and routine monthly bills were paid. Notable payments include Tribune Pub. Co. 19.70 and several individual salaries.

Dr Swain announces the Dillon lecture series with five programs. November 7 features U S Senator Robert L Taylor speaking on The Temptation in Tennessee. December 14 humorist Herbert Leon Cope. Gold Watch Presented to Dillon Base Ball Manager

Local business leaders and baseball fans honored Matt Barry for building a championship 1907 Dillon team by presenting him a solid gold watch. The gift, proudly forged at Albert Stamm’s jewelry, bears the inscription To M. E. Barry From The Business Men of Dillon. Barry values the memento highly.

He notes strong state participation, praises Helena hospitality, and urges local ranchers farmers and miners to prepare premium stock and products for next year's show.

Farmers Offered Short Courses At Montana College

The Agricultural College at Bozeman lists short post graduate programs for farmers including animal industry judging and dairy work from January 6 to 18, soil and crop management, horticulture, and dairy stock care. Additional butter making, steam engineering, irrigation surveying, and a three year college track are described with intake details and a contact to President J. M. Hamilton.

Argenta Mining Camp Sees Record Activity and Expansion

George W. French reports Argenta and surrounding workings energized with about 35 men at Butte and Argenta sites and plans to hire more. A canal project to power a hoist and lights is under way, drawing water from the Rattlesnake to develop 125 horsepower, while Argenta-Dillon employs ten men and three shifts. Prospecting shows first class ore, with a 60 foot surface lead traceable 3,000 feet. Stockholders vote October 4 to pool private stock and issue 25,000 treasury shares at 10 cents to buy machinery.

Beaverhead County Commissioners Set Contracts and Appointments

Beaverhead County Montana held a special session October 7 1907 with O C Goaman chairing. Bids awarded for poor farm cottage to A McDonald and jail steel ceiling to Dillon Plumbing Co. An extra $500 was appropriated to add to the Lima jail. Dick Trueman appointed road supervisor emeritus in District No 10 at Dewey. Road Fleming’s petition approved pending new road terms. The Manse society event was announced for Thursday afternoon hosted by Mrs. R F Tattersall.

Montana Woolgrowers Oppose Federal Range Control

The Montana Woolgrowers Association adopts resolutions opposing federal government grazing rights on public lands and any scheme to tax or license grazing. They support forest preservation but reject government range regulation as hindering settlement and development, urging delivery of the resolutions to the President and to all U S senators and representatives.
