The autumn quarter at Montana State Normal College is underway with 381 students enrolled after the first week. The Montanomal staff is organized for the year. Jane Herndon of Dillon is editor in chief, with Duane Taft of Great Falls and Viola Lindberg of Simms as assistants.

John Deere supplied a small plow emblem displayed in ag rooms.
A small symphony orchestra is organized at the Normal College with Miss Frances Robinson, violin instructor, directing. Membership spans college faculty and students, plus interested townspeople. Practices occur twice weekly in the college auditorium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from seven thirty to eight forty-five.
Dillon Rotarians and their wives will drive to Twin Bridges tonight for a dinner hosted by the Twin Bridges Rotary club. About 26 members from Dillon and accompanying spouses will make the trip, following a weekly luncheon announcement. The Twin Bridges club has planned an engaging program and an enjoyable evening is expected.
Lieutenant Governor F A Hazelbaker departs for Missoula and will tour Montana in support of the Republican party. He plans to visit nearly every county, declaring reports indicate a Republican year and a rapidly growing sentiment for their candidate.
Beaverhead county opens big game season on Wednesday October 15 for thirty days. Local hunters plan trips while weather forecasters are asked to send snow before the start. Only buck deer with horns four inches or more may be killed. deer scarcity noted by ranchers and others in the hills.
City council approved an order to refurbish and polish the city hall auditorium floor and to install sounding boards on the stage. The hall will host the Baxter Tonney orchestra every Saturday night this winter except holidays, and several General Fund claims were approved.
Beavers host Gallatin County high of Bozeman on Saturday at 2 30 pm in a season opener. The Montana State Normal Bulldogs, led by Coach O K Moe, feature returning players Halverson Musberger and Ansheim with several new gridmen as they prepare for Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho on Monday. The program notes an upcoming schedule with Bobkittens Billings Polytechnic Intermountain Union and a tentative Mines clash.
Arny Meyer of Butte reports a thrilling game where Montana lads Frank Little of Dillon Moe of Great Falls and Miller of Oregon Aggies starred for a far stronger Oregon side in a 27 to 7 win over U C C The left side of Oregon’s line struggled but Little was in on nearly every play thwarting opponents and Moe made key tackles and passes including a pass to Miller for Oregon’s only score.
Figures from Clerk and Recorder John S. Baker's office show 3,556 electors eligible for the November 4 general election, up 250 from July's primary registration of 3,305. This total also marks a drop from two years ago when 3,777 voters were qualified, with precincts showing varied increases and decreases.
Regina Langdorf long time Dillon resident and wife of Sam W. Langdorf died at her Kentucky avenue home after a long illness. Born in Akron, Ohio she was 71 and had lived in Beaverhead county since 1906. Surviving are her husband and daughters Mrs John DeLong of Butte and Mrs Robert Campbell.
The Dillon Boy Scouts held a Court of Honor last Friday at the courthouse. Frank Hazelbaker awarded Second Class badges to Don Gilbert and James McCulley, John Collins presented Merit Badges to Fielding Graves Wilbur Gilbert Jr Bob Erwin Harold Wheat Anthony Bransman James Kelly Fred Simons and Tom Hartwig. Bob Graham received the High Star rank from A L Krause. Certificates were given to those who passed the leaders course exams led by Krause. recipients include H D Jewett Paul Bransman William Barry William Backus P C Brown George C Farrell Leroy M Gilbert L Ott Gordon N L Henry Lambert Bliel F J Tonrey and War.
R L Ralph general manager and H Norton and 8 Ross of Calcite Crystal Products Inc Missoula led their firm's booth at the county fair. Stockmen across the county showed strong interest in a crop mix claimed to surpass costlier preparations. A notable display compared vegetables grown with and without the product on the same farm, highlighting impressive results.
The Rev H B Hansen was installed as pastor of First Lutheran Dillon during Sunday morning services in the old Catholic church with installation by Rev A M Skindlev of Spokane. A reception for the new pastor followed at the church Saturday evening. Two cars were stolen Sunday night and recovered: a Buick sedan owned by Lt. Gov Frank A Hazelbaker found near Lima Tuesday. a Chrysler sedan owned by D A Galt abandoned on Dillon street Monday morning.
