Mammoth pageant in Dillon showcased Beaverhead county history from earliest days to now. Thousands hailed the golden anniversary parade as the greatest local event, notable for Dillon’s semi centennial celebration and the county fair, with visitors from nearby towns and distant communities.

Rancher Harles Killed in Hunting Accident Near Monida

Beaverhead stockman Charles C. Harles, 50, was accidentally shot and killed by his double barreled shotgun while hunting on his ranch 12 miles north of Monida Montana last Saturday. His 10 year old daughter Roberta witnessed the tragedy and ran for help. The childhood accident occurred when a misfire struck him in the abdomen after he crawled through a fence to free the gun. He died within minutes. the incident was reported from the Beaverhead area.

Power Line To Bannack Assured

Montana Power Co will start building a power line to Bannack within two weeks after a survey by George Metlen and his crew. The project aims to provide new electrical service to the Bannack area.

Barrett Named Head State Bank and Trust Co

After a directors meeting in Dillon, R M Barrett was elected president of the State Bank and Trust Company. J E Monroe became vice president with Sam Wilkinson as vice president and cashier and R M Stone as assistant cashier. Barrett has fifteen years with the bank and is from Beaverhead County founded by his family. Wilkinson comes from Helena where he served with Union Bank and Trust as field representative and vice.

County Registration Shows Good Increase

Registration figures for the general election show a solid rise, with approximately 3,580 electors registered. Since the July primary, 277 names have been added to the lists. Registration closed Sept. 19.

Enrollment climbs at Montana State Normal College

The autumn quarter opened with higher attendance than last year. By noon enrollment reached 376, up from 347 last fall and 375 in 1928. President Shel don E. Davis announced the figure as regular classes began Tuesday. Clarice Fabrick described the "big sisters" program assisting new students.

The Dillon fairgrounds hosted the annual county fair last Wednesday through Friday with record exhibits attendance and weather noted as exceptional. Thousands visited each day to view superior exhibits and a standout entertainment program that drew large crowds.

Ranch Hand Killed When Hit by Car

JOHN CAVANAUGH 89, ranch laborer of Reichle, was killed early Thursday on the state highway north of Dillon after being struck by a car driven by Bernard Whitworth of Dell. A coroner’s jury found the death accidental and unavoidable, noting Cavannah walked in the road and Whitworth was momentarily blinded by headlight glare.

Esteemed Matron of Beaverhead City Dies

Catherine D Mooney, esteemed pioneer matron of Beaverhead County and wife of Edward Mooney, passed away Friday night at Barrett Hospital after a lingering illness. She had been a patient at the hospital for some time.
