The county fairgrounds boast a new 42 by 62 foot fireproof livestock pavilion with 500 seat capacity. The Hereford bull show and sale runs Oct 27 28 with 26 consigners from across the state. Dillon Chamber of Commerce funds prizes. amateur judges share a $50 pool. Sunday closes with a smoker at Odd Fellows hall.
Funeral services were conducted at the Brundage chapel on Tuesday afternoon for Ephriam Peterson a well known rancher of Red Rock who died at his ranch home last Sunday. The Rev Leonard Thompson of the Lutheran church officiated. Interment was at Mountain View cemetery. Pallbearers were J M Campbell W Wyatt William Gleed Earl Cantrell Max Merrill and Dr H A Maillet. He is survived by his wife Carrie two daughters Mrs N J Birrer of Sheridan and Mrs Ted Renfro of Red Rock three sons Dan Everett and Darrell all of Dell a son in law George McLean of Red Rock a sister in Canada a brother in California and five grandchildren.
Charles Greene of this city joins Montana State College three man judging team to represent MSC Bozeman at the Pacific International Livestock Exposition opening this week in Portland Oregon. Teammates are John Fritz and Owen Wirak of Butte. The trio will visit Don Warren’s ranch at Deer Lodge en route to the exposition.
Argenta public school children enjoy recently purchased playground equipment installed by the Argenta school board. Francis and Allen Dumont returned to Dillon after visiting their aunt Mrs. Harvey Gaines in Camp Creek South Carolina. They traveled by bus from Miles City.
A speeding tourist struck and killed a black-tail buck a mile south of Glen, with a remorseful driver explaining he had done all he could to avoid the accident. The incident follows recent heavy rainfall and a frost in Dillon as Beaverhead county remains verdant.
Last minute plans for the Dillon District PTA convention are finalized at a meeting in the high school music room. The event, chaired by Mrs L M Holloran, includes a luncheon at the Trail cafe and a banquet by the home economics class. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. with no fee.
The Van Ham brothers display a 1917 Saxon roadster in Dillon drawing curious crowds. Swapped for a double eagle, the vintage car runs 35 miles per gallon with a Model A carb and 35 mph top speed, defying modern features.
Pocatello Indians overwhelmed Beavers 44-0 as rain slicked the field aiding the visitors in a heavy line play. Dillon advanced to the ten before stalling, while Willey Kamps and Rogan left with injuries. Next Friday Butte Central visits under floodlights.
Raymond P. Jones of Beaverhead county high school completed Montana's first life size Legionnaire statue for Mountain View cemetery dedication on Armistice Day. The statue mirrors a five eleven soldier and features a Gosman likeness through a clay mask used in the mold. It was modeled with wire lath and native clay before shipping to Conrad for dedication.
Mr and Mrs J A McCollum have returned from San Francisco where they attended the Golden Gate exposition that recently closed. The trip followed Mr McCollum's summer post as Union Pacific station agent in West Yellowstone for the tourist season.
Dillon residents George Gosman Frank Madden and Dr. F M Poindexter attended the American Legion national convention in Boston as delegates and flew to Cincinnati for the World Series game. Two Tigers players familiar to Montana fans include Bar telt a former Clark College shortstop and Averill a standout with the Anaconda Angdes noted for clutch hits this season.
Officials in charge of the campaign for the state university millage levy and bond issue at Bozeman report high general interest. Both major parties back the measures and endorsements extend to businessmen professionals and labor groups including civic and patriotic organizations and the Montana Federation of Labor.
On opening day 25 football suits were checked out and freshman matriculation proceeded with tests and schedule adjustments. Civil aeronautics enrollment remains below required ten, while the team may field three backfield options. The season opens with a game against Rick's College in Rexburg, Idaho, on October 26.
Martin L. Hibbard of 429 Washington Street Dillon has completed a radio and television course at the National Radio Institute Washington D C and received a diploma with creditable grades. He is to be congratulated on the achievement.
Fred Pendleton of the Big Hole vicinity was in Dillon Monday.
Pat O'Brien alias Fred LeRoy Mason, a Wilbur cafe cook, fled with about $150 in silver from the cash drawer last Wednesday. He later bought a $65 down payment on a 1933 Chevrolet, used a false name, and was arrested in Dillon after returning to his room and disappearing briefly.
The Trail cafe kitchen was broken into Monday night with no valuable items reported missing. Police believe entry occurred via a window after climbing from a garage roof at the rear. no arrests have been made.
Mrs. Walter A. Bates of Joliet Illinois visits Dillon to see her sisters Mrs. Harry Graves Mrs. R A Chandler and Mrs Ada McLaren.
Dillon and area hunters bought migratory bird stamps as season opened. Post Office led with 60 stamps, Lyons 54, others at Winn’s Sporting Goods. Duck shooting began at 6:27 a.m. and ends daily at 4:00 p.m. with rifles and shotguns in use.
Pete Givogre and Glenn Childers received prison sentences and fines for game law violations. Childers was caught after four days in the Anaconda Pindar area with a deer, jailed 60 days in Deer Lodge county, and fined 300 dollars. Givogre, arrested in Wisdom, pleaded guilty to killing two mountain goats, received 90 days in Granite county jail and a 500 dollar fine. Licenses were revoked and Givogre's rifle confiscated.
