Reign of Montana Highwaymen Ends With Execution of Plummer
In 1863 Bannack miners elect Henry Plummer as sheriff to curb bandits. Plummer uses power to shield kin and loot gold shipments, moves to Virginia City, then is exposed by vigilantes after a police informant reveals his role. He and two associates die on the Bannack scaffold as the band of highwaymen rule collapses.
