William L Melogue Dies in Dillon Civil War Vet and Pioneer
William Leonard Melogue, a Civil War veteran and early Beaverhead County pioneer who lived in Dillon since the Utah & Northern station era, died at his home. Born January 23, 1834 in North Carolina, he served in the 13th Iowa Infantry, later ranching in Gallatin and Madison valleys, and the Big Hole Basin before settling in Dillon five years ago. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal church with G A R present, interment in Mountain View. His son W. C. Melogue survives.

Jury Disagrees in Crowns Sheep Theft Case
A hung jury in the Edward Crowns sheep theft case ended with jurors discharged after a ten to two vote for conviction. Crowns, linked to hundreds of stolen sheep while driving a cattle band to Spencer Idaho, was arrested and returned to Dillon after fleeing post preliminary proceedings. In the same session, Terrance Flynn won $500 against Thomas Flynn for damages.
