Convention a Success in Dillon Sunday School Gathering

A large Dillon Sunday School convention concluded with an acclaimed address by Rev. J. A. Alford of Helena. The event featured sessions at the Baptist and Methodist churches, officer elections, child development papers, and a pledge of support to the state association. Big Reclamation Project Near Twin Bridges

Arrangements underway for an irrigation scheme by the Three Forks Land company to reclaim 10 000 to 20 000 acres of arid beach land southeast of town. Series of small reservoirs in Boulder canyon to store snowmelt water, with W H Godfrey surveying and preliminary work begun. If funded and snow melts on time, construction could start in spring aiding local farmers and homesteaders.

R C Koontz dies after long illness in Montana

R C Koontz a longtime engineer and miner in Parlin Montana died of heart failure aged 66. Born in Ohio he moved to Montana in 1901 and spent many years in the Birch Creek district and was highly regarded by local miners. Funeral services are set for 2 PM at the Presbyterian church with interment at Mountain View cemetery.

District Court Active in Long-Running Dillon Session

The Dillon district court, started November 16 by Judge Poindexter and now led by Judge Callaway, hears multiple cases. Ritz vs Ritz proceeds while Elliott vs Montana and Idaho Stage Co. yielded a defendant win for $10,000. Flynn vs Oregon Short Line awarded $1,236.50. Smith vs Ferris ruled for $150. Simmons of State Bank of Dillon awarded $1,720.60. Two boys, Riley and Kettleson, arraigned for burglary. Palmer pleads guilty to forgery with Shaver to face trial. cattle matters involve Mr. Mathewson and the sale of Fremont vehicles.

Toll Line Put in Commission Connecting Big Hole Basin

The Southern Montana Telephone toll line between Wisdom and Divide was commissioned last night linking the Big Hole basin to Butte Anaconda Helena and all Montana Bell system points. Secretary Hazelbaker reported the line was cut in and operates perfectly adding Ralston Dewey Divide to the system and securing through service for the region.

Rand Buys Fine Cattle from Mathewson in Idaho dispersal

Marcus Rand of Horse Prairie purchases C G Mathewson's entire 100 head beef cattle herd. The stock is moved to the Hamilton ranch in Montana. Mathewson, a leading Idaho breeder, has spent years improving his bloodlines, importing full blood Shorthorns and dispersing calves each spring.

Sheepherder Goes Amok in Provost Saloon

A deranged sheepherder known as Doc Scott created a scene Friday morning in Provost and Ripley’s saloon. He threatened bartender Frank Cox with a gun and lunged at Undersheriff Doc Erwin before being overpowered by deputies and jailed for a mental evaluation.

Robbery Strikes Minnie Smith Home in North Montana Alley

Last Thursday night around midnight two men burglarized Minnie Smith in a North Montana alley residence. They forced her at gunpoint to reveal her money, taking $18 before fleeing. The victim, an invalid living alone, gave no description of the assailants.
