Convicted killer Claire Dankes jailed for life in murder case
James J. Smith, alias Claire Dankes, pled guilty to first degree murder before Judge Donlan and received life imprisonment at Deer Lodge. He admitted killing Ackaret after the latter testified in a land case, and the body was found in a well near Divide. He had a history of jail escapes and parole violations.

A home wedding at Argenta last Thursday evening united Miss Florence Grace Gaeter and Dr. Frederick M. Poindexter, prominent Dillon couple, with service by Rev. William S. Watson. The parlor and dining rooms were ornate with smilax, ferns, and white flowers, and the maid of honor was Cassie Bishop. Many Cases Set for Next Term in County Court
Judge Poindexter opens the regular December term on the 4th with a long docket to January 25 1918. A three week holiday adjournment runs until January 9. Jurors listed include D T Albee Clark Anderson and many others. Cases target felonies and debts such as cutting a hand with a butcher knife and various theft and damage actions scheduled for Dec 9 through Jan 25.
