Dillon Women’s Club Holds Regular Monthly Dinner

Architect of Bozeman Visits Normal College for PWA Project

Fred Willson, Bozeman architect, visited Montana State Normal College to discuss PWA project 5023 for reconstruction of residence halls. Operations may begin early winter. The college expands library and training programs with 350 supplementary readers and enhanced freshmen library tests. A pep band will form under Irene Bond, with open invite to community members for the basketball season.

Banquet to be Held by Beaverhead Veterans

Beaverhead Post will host an ex service men banquet at Lima this evening with local veterans invited to attend. The veterans organization plans a brief program and a social hour following dinner.

Members of the Beaverhead post of the American Legion host ex service men from southern county tonight at the Peat hotel in Lima. The Dillon delegation led by Commander Guy D. Combes will meet at the city hall at 6 pm and travel to Lima for a 7 30 pm banquet with T E Gilbert County Attorney as principal speaker. Father Timothy Clifford and other veterans will also speak as the post nears a 100 member drive.

Dillon Youth Joins Montana Stock Judging Team for Chicago

Carl Hansen of Armstead will travel with Montana State College’s stock judging team to the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago later this month. The Beaverhead County High School graduate earned first place individually at a recent Portland contest and local groups are helping fund his trip.

Seal Sale Opens Here On Tuesday In Dillon

On Tuesday, Nov. 26, the sale of Christmas tuberculosis seals will be conducted in Dillon's business district. Regular drives in other districts start after Thanksgiving. Early sale in town helps merchants use seals on correspondence and statements. Mrs. J. H. Gilbert leads the team with Mrs. R. D. Curry, Mrs. H. M. Warner and Mrs. H. H. Bates assisting. Violet Eastman guides dramatics students to speak at church and civic groups. Seventy percent of county seal funds aid the county nurse and tuberculin/X-ray tests. Children will not sell seals.

Bids Open Soon on Normal Residence Hall Construction

Sealed bids for a Montana State Normal college residence hall will open at a December 9 state board of education meeting in Helena. Plans call for a fireproof three story 250 by 42 foot building with dorm rooms baths and service areas. Separate bids cover general construction plumbing heating and electrical work.

Miners Dominate Normal in Bitter Butte Rivalry

Montana School of Mines crushed Montana Normal 46 to 0 in the annual rivalry clash at Butte. The Miners built a 12 to 0 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half.

Final Day Open Season Yields Buck Winners in Argenta District

Final day of the deer open season last Friday produced multiple spikes in the county. Elmo Winn and his wife won a contest with a six point and a five point buck in the Argenta district and Willow Creek respectively. Beaverhead hunter Sam Freeman claimed a deer to preserve his record of a deer each season. Dillon resident Carl Hansen brought in a possible elk record weighing over 700 pounds with an 85 inch antler spread. Other hunters Jake Selner Edward Bourquin Jay McCarthy and Marvin Selway also reported elk or deer during the period.

Governor urges Armstead-Salmon road project

Governor F H Cooney backs the Armstead to Salmon Idaho highway urging Montana Highway Commission to start work on about 30 miles of unpaved segments. He argues completion would recapture half a million dollars in Montana business and could begin next spring. Dillon Rotary Addressed by Tax Authority

Fred Bennion secretary of the Montana Taxpayers association and former Rotary district governor spoke at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner Monday night. He cited Rotary width in Oklahoma and Texas clubs, urged civic participation, and warned that tax burdens rise as government spending grows past forty percent of national income.

Elks Plan Memorial Exercises in Dilton

The Dilton Elks lodge will hold annual memorial services at the training school auditorium Sunday afternoon December 1. Floyd C. Muent of Butte will deliver the memorial address. Metlen Attends National Reclamation Meeting in Salt Lake

Beaverhead county surveyor Geo Metlen attended the National Reclamation Association gathering in Salt Lake City. He serves on Montana’s National Legislative Committee as part of the western states coalition seeking irrigation development and federal funding, working with western lawmakers and state officials to advance water conservation and project repayment details.

Time Limit For Payment Of Taxes Near

Beaverhead county taxpayers have nine days left to pay assessments due in November. The deadline is Saturday November 30 at 5 pm announced by County Treasurer Norah Connelley. Delinquent taxpayers may also settle pre-1934 taxes without penalties or interest, a second notice stated by Clerk and Recorder Robert Baker.
