Former Dillon businessman dies in Deer Lodge wreck
Former local businessman 688 Sugg, a well known Dillon resident, was killed in a car crash near Deer Lodge last Tuesday night. He and a friend were driving to Butte when the driver lost the road and the car overturned trapping him. Funeral services were held in Deer Lodge and the body shipped east. Sugg earlier worked as a clerk in Dillon for Olmsted and Stevenson and Montana Mercantile, later becoming part owner of Bond Grocery.

Higher tax levies explained despite lower Beaverhead taxes
Beaverhead county's total taxes show a $16,000 drop from last year causing confusion. Assessor Ross W. Emerick explains the increase results from a 1.75 mill debt reduction fund, a rise in the high school fund from 7 to 50 mills, and a new 2.60 mill greater university levy. Dilton city levy up by one half mill while county valuation fell by $800,000, so total revenue declines even with higher levies.

Highway work near Roberts advances to Hamer completion
Construction on the Idaho Montana highway from Roberts to Hamer progresses fast and should finish this fall except for oiling next year. Crushed gravel surfacing is done to the forks of the road northwest of Roberts and sand surfacing of the balance is under way.

Deer and elk carcasses found abandoned near Willow Creek and Medicine Lodge
Three does were found killed along Willow Creek last week by resident Dewey Heggerty. Undersheriff Carl Hartwig said the carcasses showed they were killed weeks ago, likely by a group of young men from Butte camping nearby. Two elk were also killed and abandoned in the Medicine Lodge district, reported in Dillon.

Hunters Close Big Game Season in Local Mountains
A record number of Dillon sportsmen spent the closing days of the big game season in the mountains and returned Sunday night and Monday. Many brought venison while others told tales of near misses as deer were pursued. Sunday saw the highest number of deer killed.

Stockmen Warned to Re-register Brands
A warning to all stockmen to re-register their brands with the state livestock commission was issued yesterday by William Lovell state stock inspector for this district. Many of the state is oldest brands have not been re recorded for years and old-time brand owners risk losing rights to brands with deep state history. Car Victim Rescued After Ditch Accident Near Armstead
Harry Hugene Martin of Butte was rescued by three unidentified motorists after his car overturned in an irrigation ditch along the highway south of Armstead. He suffered shock, exposure, possible skull base fracture, and multiple injuries. He was en route to Pocatello when the crash occurred.

Lone bandit robs Dell tavern and flees south
A masked bandit entered the R. B. Wiott establishment at Dell around 9 PM, brandished a gun, tied up patrons and staff, and escaped with an estimated 276 to 300 dollars.
