Montana specialist warns on phosphorus calcium balance in livestock feeding
Extension livestock expert B P Orcutt at Montana State College cautions stockmen to choose mineral supplements with at least 10 percent phosphorus and minimal calcium. He notes midwestern blends carry excess calcium, locking phosphate and hurting usage, while Montana firms tailor formulas at about 55 cents per pound of phosphorus. Labels must disclose minerals and amounts as required by Montana law.
