What Becomes of Grasshoppers in Farming
In August and September grasshoppers decline rapidly as they lay eggs in holes. Eggs are deposited along field borders, ditch banks and roadsides. If infestation was high, plow late fall or winter to destroy eggs. Where plowing isn’t possible, harrow the ground thoroughly with a disk to destroy eggs. Winter or early spring harrowing pays off by reducing future hatch. Continuous egg destruction year to year is most effective. C P Gillette Colorado Agricultural College Fort Collins.
