Graduation Program at Normal College This Week

The Normal College schedules a training school commencement at 1 30 PM Wednesday in the training school auditorium. The Junior Prom occurs Friday night in the college gym. Sunday features the baccalaureate service at 11 00 AM in the college auditorium and a graduates and faculty dinner at 1 00 PM in the residence hall. Monday 8 15 AM sees graduation programs in the auditorium including plays directed by Miss Myrtle Savidge and a Little Symphony concert led by Mr Ralph Mc Fadden.

Fifty Beav__erhead County High School Graduates in New Building

Fifty Beaverhead county high school seniors received diplomas at the annual commencement in the new building. Pres. Sheldon E. Davis of Montana State Normal College spoke on When Tomorrow Comes. R. M. Barrett awarded the diplomas. Conrad O. Orr presented candidates. The program featured the high school orchestra under L A Gregory with Ralph McFadden guest director, vocal numbers, and a girls sextet.

Bankers group elects leaders at Montana district meet

Members of Group Six of the Montana Bankers association held their annual district convention last Friday in the directors' room of the First National bank here with broad attendance. Guy Piatt of Metals Bank & Trust in Butte was elected president for the coming year. John Will of Bank of Sheridan was named vice president and Tom J. Sillers of Daly Bank & Trust in Anaconda was chosen secretary treasurer. J. F. Lowney of First National Bank of Butte, group president, presided, with C. M. Holbert of Twin Bridges serving as secretary.

Vocations Topic At Dillon Rotary Club Dinner

William George, a Beaverlead county high school graduate of 1940, spoke on Vocational Prospects for High School Graduates at the Dillon Rotary Club. He noted law as crowded but rewarding for the keen and persevering, discussed ministry as well compensated in esteem, teaching with limited salary for qualified teachers, and veterinary practice as not overcrowded. Howard Lyon sang three selections and Lambert Eliel chaired.

Annual Dance Revue by Claudia Faust School Set

Pupils of Claudia Faust School of Dancing will present their annual revue in the Beaverhead high school auditorium Monday June 3 at 8 15 pm. About 30 dancers perform tap acrobatic toe musical comedy ballet and novelty numbers including ladder tap with Jimmy Faye's orchestra providing music. A small admission fee covers auditorium rental. Benjamin Loy a Beaverhead ranch laborer died Sunday at Sparrett hospital aged 53 with relatives in Oregon. He had been a stockman and worked as a herder on local ranches.

Poppy Day Sale Raises About 125 Dollars

Approximately 125 dollars was collected by the annual Poppy day sale held Saturday with Mrs Eva Critz as chairman of the committee in charge. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts assisted the auxiliary women.

WPA Sewing Room In Dillon Delivers For Week

More than 250 visitors registered on Friday as Dillon’s WPA sewing room hosted a week of open house. Under Mrs. Ida Olson supervision the unit has produced 6,184 garments using 17,625 yards of fabric and employed about 14 seamstresses on average.

Softball to Open Dillon's First Season at Memorial Day Program

Memorial day program at the county fairgrounds features Dillon's first softball season with an all afternoon schedule. It opens at 1 30 p m with a parade and flag raising by the Elks corps then a Dillon Legion vs Butte Junior Legion baseball game at 3 p m. Softball matches follow at 2 p m Gleeds versus Eliels 4 30 p m Dillon Fire Department versus Safeway and 5 30 p m continuation.

W. T. Scully Dies of Heart Attack in Dillon

William T. Scully, 65, a renowned Dillon resident and former Beaverhead county peace officer, died Sunday afternoon at his home from a heart attack. He had been in good health and recently served as secretary of Dillon lodge No. 16, A F and A M, at a past masters night.

Beaverhead Board Sets Summer Normal College Opening

Regular Beaverhead county commissioners meeting May 6 1940 approved civilian and school actions. Elwood L Comer of Grass Range to lead summer industrial arts at Normal college, with prior education from Montana and Oregon institutions. Budget notes show Poor fund nearly exhausted amid highway maintenance duties for the Dillon Twin Bridges project.

Miss Katherine MacGregor to Leave Dillon School Service

Miss Katherine MacGregor veteran Dillon school nurse resigns from training staff effective at term end after 21 years of service. She arrived in Dillon after World War I and served overseas, later joining Montana State Normal college as nurse in 1919 and later dedicating herself to public school duties. She is noted as one of the few women in the American Legion.

Dillon Hosts State Federation of Women’s Clubs Meeting

Over three hundred visitors are expected June 6 7 and 8 for the biennial convention of the Montana Federation of Women’s Clubs in Dillon with the Dillon Shakespeare Club as host. Kiwanis Club to Sponsor Lighting of Fairgrounds Field

The Dillon Kiwanis club will illuminate a fairgrounds field this summer with 24 to 26 1500 watt lamps on 45 foot poles. Installation will involve Birch Creek CCC camp poles and volunteers, aiming for July 1 or sooner, to light softball baseball football rodeo and other outdoor events.

In the final Dillon Business and Professional Women's club session, Miss Gladys For ester presided at a tea organized with yellow marguerites yellow candles and green vase.
