Commencement Exercises at Normal College Mark 1918 Class

The twenty first annual commencement week at the Normal College ended with morning exercises and a baccalaureate service. The Class of 1918 lists 59 graduates, including May finishers and August graduates, with a notable absence of male students this year.

Beaverhead County surpasses its Red Cross quota by over $4,000, bringing county totals to above $11,000 with more gifts arriving. The drive lists numerous contributors including the Provost & Ripley firm, Libby and Masonic Lodge, and individual donors such as Esterwald, Mrs. and Misses across Beaverhead, with officials predicting the total may double.

Summer School Opens Monday Grades Map Out Busy Term

The summer school starts Monday June 3 for grades First Second led by Miss Day Third Fourth led by Miss Macdonald seventh eighth led by Miss Dorchester and ungraded room supervised by Miss Hazard. Kindergarten begins Monday June 10 for eight weeks led by Miss Charlotte Gerrick with four to six year olds. The playground runs afternoons and evenings for six weeks and Miss Henry oversees physical culture. The program is free and aims to help students make up work.

Jacks Sold by Memphis Dealer Highlights Prices

Dr. W. H. Wilson, a Memphis horse and mule dealer, sold six registered Jacks in the city last week. Two were moved to Grasshopper by motor truck, fetching 1500 and 1000 dollars to J. C. Harrison and Guy Gray respectively. A top animal brought 1500 dollars to Mathews Peyre Girard of Kidd.

Captain Hobson Urges Dry Nation In War Time Talk

Judge Clark dismissed a personal damage suit by Mrs. Elizabeth Clark against merchant B. H. Paul after a lengthy district court proceeding with many witnesses. Carrie Gudici won against A. Summerhour, gaining possession of land and $497.78 in damages. George Gray, executor of the Haw estate, won against Dan Grant. A direct verdict favored plaintiff in Amanda Gulici v Dresher, granting land possession and $497.77 in damages in the Sweetwater district.

Big Red Cross Dance Planned by Diamond O Company

Ira Sanders of the Diamond O company announces a countywide Red Cross benefit dance and supper on Saturday night, June 1. The Diamond O will cover all expenses and donate proceeds to the Beaverhead chapter. A jazz orchestra will play. supper is served from 10 p.m. to breakfast. Pioneer Beaverhead resident Harrison B Brown dies in California

Harrison B Brown a Beaverhead county pioneer died in Long Beach California on Saturday afternoon of old age. His remains will arrive tomorrow and the funeral is set for 5 p.m. at the Episcopal church with Rev. R J Jensen officiating. Interment will be at Mountain View cemetery. He came to Beaverhead over 50 years ago near Horse Prairie, later lived in southern California, and is survived by few relatives with many friends in the county. He was about 90.

Sergeant W R Braithwaite of the British recruiting mission in Spokane Washington visited in the past week to line up Canadian army recruits. He found most Brits enlisted but identified one remaining prospect, William Falsoner a Scotsman who joined the Canadian artillery.
