A Dillon delegation studied housing options during visits to Pocatello Ogden and Salt Lake City. Members J C Wedum Dale Nelson Henry Deutsch and W M Murfin of the lumber and building trades and the Chamber of Commerce reviewed prefabricated houses quonset huts and sealed log units for rapid relief of Dillon's housing shortage. Two local groups plan immediate measures including temporary basement dwellings and attractive permanent quonset homes with ready heating and plumbing. A Dubois Idaho plant is ramping up sealed log unit production to meet working-class budgets within two months.

Preparation of Tax Roll Is Starting In Beaverhead County

Beaverhead County prepares 1947 tax roll as Assessor S P Meade notes small change expected from 1946. Sheep losses could reduce livestock value while gains in wholesale retail stocks and real estate may offset. New car exemptions limit growth in car assessments. Treasurer Mrs Alice Orr mails notices and collects taxes with May 31 deadline for 1946 second installments at risk of penalties.

Alumni Radio Program Marks 50th Anniversary

A half hour broadcast Tuesday night from 9 to 9 30 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the State Normal college founding. Interviews with early graduates including Mrs. Willis of Dillon and Mrs. Anderson of San Diego will air on a Butte station. Rush Jordan will give the main address on hopes and plans for the college’s immediate future. The banquet tops commencement week activities.

Memorial Day Observance and Closures Announced

Dillon business houses and county city and federal offices will be closed Friday for Memorial Day observance. Public observance will be held Thursday evening May 29 at Mountain View cemetery under the auspices of the American Legion to honor deceased veterans of all wars.

Dillon eighth graders to graduate in school ceremony

Eighth grade graduates of the Dillon public school will receive diplomas tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Bagley school auditorium. The class of 39 will be presented by Supt. O. K. Moe and diplomas awarded by A. F. Waldorf. The program includes music, an invocation, an address by Dr. Sheldon E. Davis, awards for attendance and punctuality, and a class presentation. The graduating class lists 39 names.

Dillon Public School Orchestra Holds Annual Spring Concert

The Dillon public school orchestra and soloists performed at the Bagley school auditorium under director L A Gregory with assistant Maxine Beck M S N C student. Accompanists were Maxine Beck and Kathryn Cardinale. A large crowd attended and afterward Mr and Mrs Gregory hosted refreshments.

Dillon teachers plan varied summer positions and stays

Superintendent O K Moe lists Dillon elementary staff with plans to spend summers in Dillon or away. Several teachers will teach in other states, join families at new homes, visit relatives in Salem and Madison, and pursue advanced studies at Minneapolis and Fairmont.

Bridwell 80 Dies in Denver After Long Reach

R T Bridwell 80 former Horse Prairie resident died last Friday in Denver Colorado. His nephew Dale Metlen attended the funeral held Monday. Born Bourbon County Kentucky in 1867 he lived many years at the Metlen ranch. He broke a leg on a Denver visit last November and did not fully recover. Survived by son Stark in Denver a daughter in Pas Kentucky and several grandchildren.

Atty. Robert E. Corette will give the Memorial Day address at Mountain View cemetery tomorrow evening May 29 under Beaverhead post American Legion. The program begins 7 15 with Com Farnum B Schuyler opening prayers by Arthur Christensen, wreath laying, firing squad salutes and taps by bugler Sammie Davis. Flags will be placed on the graves of more than 100 veterans by a committee led by Paul Temple.

Albert F. Bert Selway 74 life long Beaverhead county resident died Monday after weeks of illness in Murray hospital. Survived by wife Ada son Walter daughter and son in law Elmer Peterson. funeral Thursday May 29 at St James Episcopal Dillon. He was born December 29 1872 and long a noted rancher in the area.
