Graduation Exercises for 40 Training School Pupils Tomorrow
Commencement ceremonies are planned for forty trainees with large crowds expected. Last Friday the annual training school exhibition showcased the best work from all departments, including primary and intermediate rooms and the junior high display in the assembly room. Exhibits were open Friday for morning through evening viewing.
Herder at Armstead Ends His Life
B SANDER 60, a herder for the Brown Brothers at Armstead, was found dead near his camp last Wednesday morning with a bullet wound to the head from his own 26-30 rifle. Known as Frank Gerlck in the county, he left a note saying Such life is not worth living. Bury me where you find me. Wrap me in my fur coat. Coroner James E. Phillips and mortician H. M. Brundage found the evidence clearly indicating suicide and released the case.

State Chief Legion Will Attend Meet
Veterans of the county will attend a Beaverhead post American Legion dinner at the Metlen hotel tomorrow night marking the final session before summer recess. Department Commander 8 Al Livingston of Butte and Department Adjutant Herbert Kiblar of Helena will be guests, with Ted Harper post members and other ex servicemen invited. Dinner at 7. Brief talks precede a short business session to elect delegates to the Miles City state convention, then entertainment.

Freight Franchise Applications Denied in Butte to Dillon Route
The Montana Public Service Commission denied applications from W. M. Daniela of Butte and Paddock & Yyre of Dillon for a motor freight franchise between Butte and Dillon. The hearing occurred here weeks ago and the cases were taken under advisement by commission members.

Sheridan Shut Out by Normal in Game Sunday
Normal college pitcher Callahan hurled a 9 0 shutout as the Bull dogs blanked Sheridan 9 0 at the athletic field Sunday afternoon. Sheridan managed only two hits while Normal teammates chased three Sheridan pitchers with extra base hits including a home run by M Rasheim. The Bulldogs next play Saturday with opponent not yet announced.

Daughters of the
First Wool Clips Arrive at Beaverhead County Warehouse
The first loads of 1931 wool reached the First National Wool warehouse last week, with small clips from the lower valley. Many sheep outfits will start shearing next week and within two weeks most county shepherds will be engaged or preparing for the big annual task. No wool has been sold in Beaverhead county yet, according to authentic information.

Big Bullion Shipment from Dillon to Salt Lake City
The I. B. Mining company of Bannack shipped 342 pounds of gold bullion to Salt Lake City last Friday. President I. B. Haviland accompanied the cargo, marking the largest Dillon bullion shipment in some time.

May Fete Draws Hundreds at Montana State Normal College
About 300 students and trainees participated in the annual May fete on the college campus in Dillon. Approximately 1500 spectators attended the outdoor pageant produced under Constance Bregan with assistance from the Women's Athletic association. Jane Redpath was crowned May queen as the coronation procession opened the colorful event. Proceeds benefited local charity cases from the school clinic.

Fishing Season Opens With Good Catches
The fishing season opened last Thursday morning with several thousand choice trout reported. General reports say fishing has been good though some anglers complain of lean baskets. Dillon fishermen report similar luck and many plan two day trips over the double holiday next Saturday and Sunday.

Pioneer Elizabeth Hill Ward Dies at Home in Dillon
Elizabeth Hill Ward a Beaverhead county pioneer died at her Dillon home last Saturday after a long illness. Born October 27 1866 in Trenton Tennessee she moved to Montana in 1889 and taught at Red Rock school before marrying Joseph Patrick Ward in 1892. She resided in the county for over 40 years and was the daughter of Major John F Hill and Elizabeth Hill.

Elk Anniversary Dance Set for Friday Evening
Final plans for the Elk anniversary dance at Dillmont park Friday night were approved by Dillon lodge No. 1654 B P O E at the Odd Fellows hall. Elks from county and neighboring lodges will attend the event for Elks and their ladies only. Sam Wilkinson was initiated, and drum corps discussed a future On to Seattle drive with a fundraising dance next month for the trip.

Jay Holtz Found Dead near Jackson on Ranch
The body of Jay Holtz former city water commissioner and prominent Dillon man was found on the John Peterson ranch near Jackson this afternoon by a cowboy. Sheriff’s office received word but no details could be learned.

Improved Salmon Armstead train service planned on G P
A daily Salmon to meet northbound and southbound Short Line trains at Armstead and transfer passengers to Salmon by 5 pm. The Gilmore & Pittsburg road unveils a new 60 foot gas electric car with seating for 46 passengers. The all steel car is electric lighted steam heated and powered by a 220 horsepower generator. It features Westinghouse air brakes and automatic brakes for safety.

Commencement exercises for 69 seniors will be at Beaverhead County High School gym tomorrow night to conclude a week of graduation activities. Baccalaureate was held Sunday at Grace Methodist with Rev H N Tragitt delivering the address. seniors attended in cap and gown as the music department presented its annual concert.

Renfro Star Shines at Dillon Trap Shoot
Renfro of Dell Beavers county’s only world champion led the Dillon Gun club event last Sunday. He won the singles with 99x100 tied with Moe Mahan of Butte, captured the doubles 47x50, and helped attract 80 plus shooters the largest Montana entry this year. Clubs from Butte Sheridan Anaconda Helena and Bozeman competed. Nick Birrer was runner up with 97x100.

Women from Beaverhead county gathered for the semi-annual Beaverhead federation of Women's clubs convention in Melrose with a large Dillon delegation. State visitors participated in the program. Melrose Women’s club acted as hostess. Dillon Choral club directed by Mrs. W. G. Gilbert performed several selections as the program opened at 10.

Ted Renfro of Dell trapshooter extraordinary visited the Dillon Rotary luncheon with live bird shoot clips from Monte Carlo shown by L. K. Adams. Medals and trophies from Renfro were displayed. Beav erhead led Montana counties with 72 teachers taking exams May 7 8 9 at the state department of public instruction.

Legion Auxiliary Poppy Sale in Dillon Draws Wide Support
Scarlet poppies made by disabled veterans were worn by nearly everyone in Dillon after a successful poppy day sale organized by the American Legion Auxiliary. High school girls aided the effort, making the flowers a daily decoration. The campaign was chaired by Mrs. Fred Crits with committee members Mrs. Lucille Hoyrup Mrs. A. O. Morrow and Mrs. Hal West.
