Sells Floto Circus to Play Dillon This Summer
The Sells Floto circus rolls into Dillon on Friday June 21 with two shows and a morning street parade. The traveling company features a ten thousand dollar baby elephant born in Salinas in April, plus a large troupe of clowns and hundreds of performers. The show boasts six hundred sixty five people, ten acres of tents, four hundred fifty horses, and one hundred acts, with a twenty five cent admission.

Tragic Wagon Accident Kills Boy Near Willis
Frank Todovich, young son of Mr and Mrs Valentine Todovich, was instantly killed when a wagon ran over him near Willis while driving gentle horses pulling a harrow home from neighbor Christian Reber. One Herd From Big Hole Brings 100000 Dollars
J E Morse of Dillon sold a 1000 head herd of cattle from the Big Hole valley for about seven cents on the hoof, bringing an estimated $100,000. The sale followed heavy spring buying and the herd averaged roughly 1,860 pounds. The Big Hole basin wintered about 21,000 to 22,000 cattle.

Early Days in the Big Hole Valley
In the early seventies the Big Hole Valley near Gainsville Texas was first used as summer pasture. It spans about 50 by 10 miles and supported water for stock. Early settlers Wood Brothers and C. V P. Staley noted cattle were small longhorns weighing around 700 to 800 pounds. Beef markets were mining camps with prices around 15 to 20 dollars for older steers. Today, cattle are sought by Epicures with buyers from across the United States.
