Special Council Meeting on Parking Meters and Highway Route

Mayor Phillip J. Lovell announced a special City Council meeting for Wednesday May 16 to discuss installing 175 to 200 parking meters on a one year trial and widening Highway 91 through Dillon to meet Bureau standards. The plan would share meter revenue with the company and include 25 percent local cost in a special improvement district estimated at 75 000 dollars.

Geodetic Survey Party Plans Dillon Arrival in May

A geodetic survey team of about 70 people plus families will reach Dillon around May 15 for a two month assignment. They travel from Fredericksburg Texas with two office trailers 17 private trailers and 19 trucks. Local residents with furnished apartments or single rooms should contact Marie Gibbons at the Museum Building office. Bert Kelly will arrive soon as advance man to arrange accommodations. The party is part of the Coast and Geodetic Survey under the U S Department of Commerce.

Beaverhead Chapter Names Mrs Archer VII Head Polio Group

Mrs Royal Archer was elected chairman for the ensuing year of the Beaverhead chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis at the annual meeting. She succeeds Dr Robert J English. Certificates of appreciation were approved for several Dillon firms and individuals for services during the year and the March of Dimes campaign. Dr English commended Dean Wright for his work as campaign chairman and thanked Mrs Bud Gransberg and Mrs Russell Stewart for treasurer and secretary duties.

Clark Canyon Project projected cost and stockholder reach

The Clark Canyon dam and irrigation project is poised for construction with an estimated cost of 18 698 000 dollars and initial funding of 130 000 dollars. Bureau of Reclamation engineers expect construction to start in fall 1957 after surveys. About 85 percent of local landowners have signed to become stockholders in the Clark Canyon Water Supply Company, with 15 percent undecided or awaiting contact. Beaverhead Wool Pool Reaches 46 1/8 Cents Per Pound Bid

Wilkins & Co of Billings, represented by Cliff Ehlers of Sheridan, won the Beaverhead Wool Pool clip bid at 46 1/8 cents per pound Monday afternoon. Six firms bid, with a low of 43 5/8 cents. The 1956 clip totals 13,160 fleeces weighing about 135,000 pounds and 115 growers are listed in the closed pool.

Gosman Presides At Sigma Chi Reunion Luncheon In Butte

Lieutenant Governor George M. Gosman of Dillon presided over a Sigma Chi reunion luncheon in the Finlen Hotel Butte with over 400 members and guests. He introduced Prof. Adrian W. Hatch of Logan Utah grand praetor for the Utah area. The ninth annual Montana Sigma Chi reunion was held Friday and Saturday marking the fraternity's 100th anniversary with more than 1 000 Montana members and wide state representation.

Bedrock rancher burned in garage well accident

Bedrock rancher Joe Roe suffered severe burns to his hands and minor facial burns after a gasoline mishap at his ranch corral last Monday. He primed a pump in a shallow well. fumes ignited the gasoline can, it spilled on a man below, Roe rolled on the ground, and he was rushed to Barrett hospital by D J Doyle.

Beaverhead Soil Conservation District marks five years since organization to aid ranchers in conservation.
