Equal Suffrage Meeting Organized in Beaverhead

A Beaverhead county gathering in Dillon on May 2 promotes woman suffrage. Mrs. Laura Tolman Scott chaired as speakers including Misses Innes Bishop Carson and Baker, and Dr. Garver of Montana State Normal College discuss arguments for granting women the ballot. A post meeting vote named precinct leaders in Dillon.

Doings in District Court for Past Week

The district court last week saw a jury verdict for the plaintiff in the land condemnation case of Joseph Skrenarva and John Nambich granting $25 damage for a ditch right of way after a lengthy trial. J S Kula charged with violating the Donlan white slave act was arraigned. the charge against Mrs Stimps was withdrawn and Kula was found not guilty by non suit but re-arrested for adultery. Raymond DeLong, co defendant with James Jones in a burglary case, was discharged. Jones’s testimony conflicted with prior statements leading to a discharge of DeLong.

Meeting closes with Battle Hymn after unanimous fenders vote

The record notes that fenders were elected by unanimous vote and other business was transacted before the meeting was adjourned with the singing of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. E Doris Kune served as secretary.

Austrian style wedding unites John Rebich and Sophia Lawrence

John Rebich and Sophia Lawrence wed at St Rose Church with a reception at the Rebich home. Guests from Dillon and nearby ranches attended as the couple followed old world customs, including a threshold crossing and a first dance, with meals and dancing continuing late into the night.

Beaverhead County Considered Flour Mill Project

At a Dillon meeting last Saturday a flour mill project was discussed with 7000 guaranteed to builders if Dillon is chosen. Louis Buege outlined plans while Fred Brunckhorst and H F Bodine of Billings visited. Despite some local doubt, Buege insisted Beaverhead could support a fifty barrel mill and proposed building near Bond with an accompanying elevator next month.

Morning Train Starts Sunday For Dillon

The Oregon Short Line will run a first class morning train from Butte to Lima starting next Sunday at 7 15 am and reaching Dillon near 10 00 am with a 6 30 pm return. The service boosts local business and connects Butte and northern points with Dillon and Beaverhead county.

Sells 14 Cars in a Week in Southern Montana

A consignment of 14 Ford and Buick automobiles unloaded in Dillon by the Montana Auto Supply company sets records in southern Montana. Four sales occurred last Sunday in Dillon and Twin Bridges as buyers from Salmon City to Bannack purchase models with minimal explanation. Sub-agencies are to be appointed as demand grows, with Walter Pitcher already operating a Ford agency in Twin Bridges.

Miss Jean Bishop Hosts Informal Normal College Tea

Miss Jean Bishop entertained Friday evening at her home in honor of Miss Lacey Cargon of the Normal college. Guests included the Shakespeare club and Normal college junior class members. Miss Carson contributed a program with novel games and spoke on the value of a golf culture club.

Cattle receipts stable week over week with Monday start 10 to 15 cents lower. top beef prices reach 8.16 to 8.20 for choice grain fed. Hogs fall 15 to 20 cents from Monday open to 8.60 top, average near 8.50 next week. Sheep slow with lambs 6.25 to 7.75, yearlings 5.45 to 5.75, and bids mixed across classes.

Fidel Huber and President J. E. Monroe of the Normal College left Dillon for Atlanta to attend a Knight Templars conclave. They expect to be away four to five weeks visiting major Atlantic coast cities and Washington DC. Mrs. Monroe will stay in the East for most of the summer.

Sharkey Sues Erwin Over Horses in District Court

Barney Sharkey filed suit against D W Erwin sheriff of Beaverhead County seeking claim and delivery of 12 horses or 600 dollars. Defense argued mortgage held by C W Snook. jury found Sharkey signed mortgage and ruled for Erwin with costs.

Fred Sassman Dies After Paralyzing Stroke

Fred Sassman, brother of Charles Sassman of this city, died at Warm Springs last night at 11 30. He had been confined since August after a paralytic stroke that left him mind afflicted. The body will arrive in Dillon this evening for funeral tomorrow. A native of Profing Germany he was 51. He had lived in this county 25 years and once owned a ranch near Glen.

Rev J W Hayward of the Episcopal church in Hamilton spent last week in Dillon studying the Jamesie library methods. Hamilton aims to found a similar institution and Hayward was sent to learn the library system. He is well remembered in Dillon for his prior time at St James Episcopal church.
