Normal Bulldogs Open Active Track Season at Rick's College
Coach Royal Morrison led the Normal track team to Rick's College for a dual meet won by Rick's College 74 to 44. Bulldogs placed in multiple events with firsts by Thompson and Anderson, a tied high jump, and several seconds and thirds. Highway project advances in Beaverhead county
Heavy equipment moved in by Union Construction of Great Falls for a 15 mile state highway from Carroll hill to Fox on the Dillon Wisdom route. A large local workforce is employed for several months of preliminary work after a $235 045 contract approved by the Bureau of Public Roads. Four carloads of galvanized iron pipe have been landed in local yards. The highway aims to shorten Dillon’s approach to the Big Hole basin and improve a troublesome route.

World War II Veteran LaRue Cantrell Returns Home for Burial
1st Lt. LaRue Cantrell, killed March 3, 1945 in the Alsace Lorraine battle with the 63rd Division, will be buried at Mountain View cemetery with full military honors. His remains arrived with Capt. John G. Griffith as an honor guard. funeral at Brundage chapel led by Rev. Belle Long. Cantrell, a Dillon native born Sept. 26, 1921, attended Beaverhead County High and Montana State College ROTC, survived by wife, daughter, brother Harold, and parents Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Cantrell.

New Fire Truck Arrives in City
Beaverhead County clerk C. W. Buckingham returned from Battle Creek Michigan with a 350 gallon tank fire truck purchased through Beaverhead Farm Bureau subscriptions and county funds. The Chevrolet two ton chassis carries pumps hose reels and chemical gear and will serve rural fires from the city fire house. Buckingham flew east and drove back the vehicle in four days.

Plane Damaged in High Wind Storm Forces Landing
A cruiser plane was overturned at the Civil Aeronautics airport by a 75 mile gale last Thursday noon as it broke from moorings during a high wind storm. Repairs followed the next day and the craft resumed flights. Hangars were secured with ropes and stakes to prevent further damage to other aircraft.

Suspected Car Thief To Return After Current Jail Term
Sheriff Paul Temple reports B Franklin Mitchell sought in October theft of a Plymouth pickup from Jack Carroll’s ranch. The vehicle was found abandoned near One Day, Oregon, and recovered. Mitchell is jailed in Santa Clara County, California, serving time for car theft and will be brought back to face charges after his term ends.
