Legion District Meeting Set for May 20 in Beaverhead
Corporal Kenneth Winston Van Antwerp 31 native of Beaverhead county was killed in action in the Philippines March 17 after three years in the Army. He served in the Army medical corps and was overseas for 18 months after induction March 17, 1942. Beaverhead post will host the mining district convention May 20 with 2 PM session led by District Commander O B Silvey and an evening banquet at the Andrus hotel. committee includes George M. Funeral services for J. Emery Keller a prominent Beaverhead county retired rancher were held Friday afternoon at the Brundage funeral home chapel. The Rev Lewis D Smith of St James Episcopal church conducted the service with the Masonic lodge in charge of graveside rites at Mountain View cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Peterson Ray Martinell Charles Henderson Tom Cantrell Fred Eudaily and George M Gosman.

Mrs. Mary Desmond Barrett 58 lifelong Beaverhead County resident and wife of Chester Barrett horse prairie rancher died at 2 am in a Dillon hotel apartment after years of ill health. Alleged Forger Arrested in Dillon After Check Forgery
Adrian Leary Banks 21, transient, was arrested by Sheriff Claude Lay and jailed awaiting arraignment on forgery charges. He is accused of cashing bad checks in two local establishments using forged Harrison Ranch signatures. Banks had been in the city several days, the sheriff said.

Beaverhead county high school's annual operetta Rudolf Friml's The Firefly played to capacity crowds in Dillon last Friday and Saturday. Directed by Fred A. Honeychurch, the production drew praise as a standout musical entertainment. Cast featured Dorthianne Boka and Stewart Burwell in lead roles with strong support from Peggy Sutherland Geraldine Gillies John Patton and others. The orchestra and original dances were also under Honeychurch's direction with Claudia Faust guiding dance numbers.

Nearly 10 tons of clothing were donated by Beaverhead county residents for the United National Clothing Collection, surpassing the quota. Volunteers from the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs sorted and packed the garments for shipment to Butte and then onward to destinations.

McKnight Claimed in Spokane After Accident Injury
Virgil A. McKnight, 55, once a Beaverhead county resident, died at St. Luke's hospital in Spokane from injuries suffered in an accident at a government plant near the city a month earlier. Cousin Miss Nell McKnight of Dillon learned of his death, having visited him recently.

Clarence Wall, formerly of Dillon, recounts a late night in Seattle where a man in white overalls attempted entry via his fifth floor hotel room window. Wall confronted him with a pretend gun, the intruder fled, and police later captured the suspect who faces a twenty year sentence.

University of Montana figures Dean John Crowder and Prof. John Lester performed a program for the Dillon Rotary Club with Crowder accompanying. Rainbow trout planted exceed 75,000 in Beaverhead River
Beaverhead fishermen await the May 20 opening as O T Vandegrift announces over 75,000 rainbow trout stocked in the Beaverhead river since April 23. The Ennis hatchery shipment measured six to nine inches, the largest placed in the stream from a hatchery. Deputy Warden Charles Price notes the fish are legal to harvest now but cautions on accurate handling.
