Fourteen Graduate From Beaverhead County High School

Wilson of Butte delivered a stirring address, praised as one of the best since the war began. Word reached Dillon of the death of Mrs. Otto Cronwall a former matron of the Big Hole basin and Dillon. She died suddenly last Wednesday at Manns Creek near Weiser Idaho after a brief illness from a cold and heart attack. Funeral was held at Weiser. Survived by husband and four children.

A contingent of eighteen young men left for Camp Lewis with eight volunteers. Captain Martin Fitch leads. Daniel W. Fitch’s wife signs his release, the first in Beaverhead County. Among the enlistees are George Standen, Albert Johnson, Jacob Husted, George Crane, J Wilson, Harris Kelly, Alfred Peterson, Lawrence Bennett, Otto James, Bert Walls, John Miller, Arthur Wessel, Hugh Anderson, Ed Tracy, Stanley White Sisterson, Angelo Napili and others. A send off included a dance, supper, and a public farewell at the station with strong local support and patriotic fervor. Tracy, who struggled to enlist, finally swore in after a dramatic courthouse arrival.

Ranchman James Purdy crushed to death in wagon accident
James Purdy a Grasshopper section ranchman died last Saturday when a wagon with four horses ran away on Taylor Creek hill. The tongue broke, the wagon overturned, and Purdy was buried beneath the load. His crushed chest and skull injuries led to instantaneous death. Funeral held Monday at Brundage parlors with Rev. H. G. Humphrey officiating. Survived by wife Mayme Madden, their five month old son, a Pendleton mother, a Washington state sister, and two brothers including one in Fort Sill service.
