Honor Roll Honors Lead At Montana State Normal College
May Moytan Hum of Butte tops the winter quarter honor roll at the Montana State Normal College with 3.0 grade points per credit on a 17 credit program. Pioneer of Beaverhead Claimed as Em Emma Blair Dies
Emma Blair a pioneer of Beaverhead and last survivors of Montana settlers who reached Bannack in 1863 died after brief illness at her daughter Mrs. John Shefer’s home. Born May 3 1858 in Battle Creek Michigan she crossed to Bannack with her parents James and Mrs. Forster at age five and married William G Blair in June 1874.

The Normal college glee club directed by Arnold Clair teams with the Butte School of Mines glee club under Arthur Drynan for a Friday evening concert at 8 15 p m in the Normal college auditorium. Admission is free. It marks the third annual joint program with about fifty voices, plus individual numbers and a college quartet. Drynan will perform a solo and two Butte members will duet.

The Dillon Elks drum, fife and bugle corps hosted its first social function after reorganization. The drill hall was near capacity as Ellis and guests danced to the corps orchestra featuring Don Julion, Preston Neff, Paul Stahl Jr, Burnice Farrell and Kenneth Wheat. Refreshments were served and the hall was well decorated.

In the Beaverhead county flag contest held Saturday at the training school auditorium under the American Legion auxiliary, juniors from Dillon won with June Johnson and Donald Smith earning division titles and advancing to the regional meet in Butte on April 9. Betty Barry of Dillon and Frank Marler of Lima won the intermediate division. sixteen pupils from six schools participated amid road-condition challenges.

Californian Held on Drunken Driving Charge Near Armstead
Sheriff Paul Temple and Deputy Ted Renfro arrested Benson Dowd north of Armstead after a car with California plates left the highway. Dowd, alleged to be under liquor influence, pleaded guilty and paid a $100 fine. John Jacobson, a witness, was held. Dorothy Doe was released after questioning. The fine funds go to the county.

State Game Commission Hears Dillon Bird Preserve Proposal
The state fish and game commission held a hearing in the county courthouse to consider establishing a bird preserve near Dillon. Proponents and opponents spoke, with J A Weaver J W Carney and John Schofield presenting for the commission. The decision is postponed to the April 15 meeting. The Beaverhead Sportsmen's Association opposed the preserve, arguing it would be of little value.

Long Trip Delayed Mrs Lowery Transported to Butte for Care
Mrs Warren Lowery suffered a crushed finger and needed a physician 18 hours from Wisdom to Butte. Three transport methods horse drawn sleigh truck and auto were used. A mail truck driven by Wilbur Tash broke a steering gear on the way to Wisdom. the vehicle left the road but no injuries were reported.

World Bridge Olympic set for April 7 in Dillon
Residents of Dillon prepare for the World Bridge Olympic on April 7 with 700 more native players enrolled from China, Japan and British India. Eight blind participants join in New York and sixty four film stars attend the event. A 65 by 250 foot potato cellar for Irvine and Cottom stores 120 carloads and runs a center runway for trucks, storing 300 acres of seed potatoes next fall. Lester Bourquin leads the excavation work.

Former Beaverhead County Superintendent Mrs McMenomey Dies
Mrs. Martin H. McMenomey formerly headed Beaverhead County schools from 1922 to 1926 and died Easter Sunday in Monrovia California. Survived by her parents F M Roe and Mrs Roe and a sister Mrs Jack Algie all of Monrovia. Her death follows a heart illness after a long residence in California.

Mother of James McCollum Dies in Long Beach Home
James A. McCollum, Oregon Short Line freight clerk, left for Long Beach California after the death of his mother Mrs John McCollum who died at her home there following a brief illness of pneumonia. The body will be brought to St Anthony Idaho for the funeral and burial. She had many friends in Dillon and is survived by another son in Ashton Idaho. A daughter died recently.
