Dillon Officer Lt LaRue Cantrell Killed in Action in France
Lt. LaRue Cantrell son of Mr and Mrs E H Cantrell was killed in action in France on March 3 while serving with the Seventh Army in the Alsace Lorraine sector. He had been overseas only two months and earned the bronze star silver star and Combat Infantryman badge with a recent silver star awarded just before his death. A Dillon native and Beaverhead county high school graduate he attended Montana State College for three years with ROTC training before entering service two years ago.

Dillon Man Killed in Berlin Raid
Sgt. Thomas T. Butler of Dillon listed as killed in action by the German government through the Red Cross. He had been missing since December 5 over Berlin after serving overseas since October 1944 as a ball turret gunner on a B 27 Flying Fortress. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Guy Butler and three step-sisters and a step brother, all of Dillon.

Beaverhead Nurses Aide Class Opens
The Beaverhead chapter of the American Red Cross sponsors a nurses aide course at Montana State Normal College. The first session was held in the ladies lounge with about 20 local women enrolled. Classes run Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays from 2:30 to 4:30 pm and 7 to 9 pm until the 80 hour program is complete led by Miss Alice Ralston. Enrollment remains open via Mrs Harold Murray.

Joe Girard Dies of Illness. Longtime Montana Chef
Joseph R. Girard 67, famed Dillon and Butte restaurant chef since 1920, died Saturday at Barrett Hospital after a paralytic stroke. Born October 1878 in Massachusetts, he moved to Montana in 1920, worked in Butte and Murray hospital kitchens, and lived in Dillon the last 18 months. Funeral held at Brundage chapel with Rev. Timothy Clifford officiating. Pallbearers included George Smith and others. sister Mrs. Timothy Reardon and her husband arrived from Oakland.

Beaverhead citizens council sent 600 pifts to service men and women during the holidays and the community train service committee will provide proceeds for two to three months. Easter services are scheduled across Dillon with St Rose Catholic, Holy Week rites, confessions, Seven Last Words, and Easter masses in Dillon Melrose and Lima. Tuberculosis Tests Planned for Beaverhead County Residents
Beav erhead county residents will receive free tuberculin patch tests and X rays if advised, under plans by Florence Anderson public health nurse for the Montana Tuberculosis association and county superintendent Margaret Sweeney. John McKee Dies At County Farm After Long Illness
John McKee aged 64 and a Beaverhead county resident for 26 years died Monday morning at the county farm hospital after a long illness. Born June 21, 1880 in Stanton Pennsylvania, he worked on local ranches and had no known surviving relatives. Funeral services were held yesterday at Brundage Funeral Home with Rev Timothy Clifford of St Rose church presiding.
