Dillon’s Hartwig theatre hosts a Negro Camp Meetin presented April 4 by the Dillon Choral club and Dillon PTA. The three act program features Choral club numbers, soloists, and groups with a 3:30 matinee for students and an 8:15 evening performance.
Beaverhead Sheriff William C. Orr dies from injuries after a head on crash near Melrose on Thursday night. Minneapolis men Pat Walsh and O W Miller die from the wreck as the county laments the fatal event and funeral services for Orr proceed in Dillon.
J W Jack Carney, a former Beaverhead deputy, was named state game warden by the state game commission ending a stalemate with Governor Cooney over Floyd L Smith appointment. Carney served nine years as deputy and assistant warden in Helena. The Moose lodge will be founded in Dillon next Saturday with local and district officials attending. Roy Forrester posted a perfect 26 at the Dillon Gun club shoot. Fred Budaily hit 23 of 25 in doubles.
The Dillon liquor store will open at noon next Saturday with a full stock as Prohibition ends in the city. EB Potadastet, vendor in charge, announced the opening. the move marks the first legal sale of whiskey and gin here since the dry era ended.
Four aldermen to be elected at the annual municipal election in Dillon next Monday. Candidates were named at a citizens caucus at the city hall auditorium with present council members largely renominated. Ward by ward, George BR Baker, George M Gosman, Al Featherly and John T Orr seek seats. J E Monroe chaired, Elmo Wynn secretary. Earlier, J H Gilbert and H M Brundage were named trustees for School District No 10 for a three year term, with no opposition. Election day set for Saturday, April 7.
The Beaverhead National Forest will show nine reels of silent forestry films and two reels of talkie comedies in county communities over the next weeks. Supervisor A A Simpson announces all screenings are free to the public. Dates are listed in continuation.
About 60 Dillon youngsters ages 6 to 16 prepare for Dillon’s largest aerial carnival. Six classes will be judged at Woodedle airport site chosen for potential steady wind with prizes donated by local merchants.
The Federal Reemployment Bureau shifts operations this week from the courthouse to City Hall, announced director Joe Fuller. The move aims to consolidate services and improve accessibility for the public.
Arthur B. Mayhew of Uvalde Texas a Rotary International director spoke at a Dillon Rotary club dinner in the Metlen hotel dining room. He traced Rotary International history noting about four thousand clubs and 147000 members worldwide and urged cooperation and the recovery program. He emphasized Rotary sixth object understanding international peace through goodwill and friendship.
Dillon mothers and daughters filled the high school gym Friday night for the annual fun fest by the Dillon Parent Teachers association. The event featured the Choral club and high school glee club in a playlet Heirlooms of Yesterday and Tomorrow with a large cast and prologue.
Mrs. Melinda Dishno wife of Silas C Dishno died Sunday at her home on Railroad Avenue in Dillon. Born in Plattsburg New York in 1862 she moved to Beaverhead county 37 years ago and lived in the Big Hole basin for 15 years before settling in Dillon in 1912. She is survived by her husband two daughters Mrs Minnie Webber of Bend Oregon and Mrs Laura
F A Hazelbaker reports from Wm I Myers that federal land bank loans will, henceforth, be issued as bonds of the Federal Farm Mortgage corporation, guaranteed by the United States. The 4 percent bonds replace cash disbursements and are supported by federal guarantees, corporation capital of about 200 million dollars, and consolidated bank bonds. Bankers and farmers creditors may favor this shift. holders should assess market value before selling.
Mrs. Joseph Wall of Beaverhead County died Sunday at her daughter’s home in Armstead after a brief illness. Born in Ireland in 1857 she came to America at 14 and later lived in Ogden Utah and Dell Idaho before settling in Armstead. Survived by two daughters Mrs. Mansfield of Grant and Mrs. Bichler of Armstead.
Two groups of Beaverhead county ranchers met at the courthouse. Hog raisers formed committees to manage the government's control program. The south panel includes Luther Smith Dick Nedrow and Joe Mautz while the north panel features Maynard Miller Jack Keenan and Lee Joy.
Members of the Dillon Country club began improvements on their new course east of the city and expect play to start shortly. Early testers praised the layout noting the lack of rocks as an advantage over the old site. At Friday’s stockholders meeting dues backing 1933 may be canceled and bonds used against back dues. R. M. Barrett was thanked for donating the new club site.
Beginning next Saturday the general delivery and parcel post windows at the Dillon post office will close at 1 PM each Saturday. Box holders will keep regular service. Mail arriving on the afternoon southbound train will be distributed and outgoing mail dispatched. Postmaster Harry J. Andrus announced the change as part of department economy readjustments.
The Union Pacific new streamlined train described as the outstanding advance in railroad equipment will pass through Dillon twice next week. It will arrive Wednesday night northbound at 10 17 and pass again the following evening.
