Lima Station 10th For Tourist Entries Last Year
The Tourist Courtesy Station at Lima ranked 10th of 13 stations operated by the Montana Highway Department last summer from June 9 to September 3. It saw 11,182 cars, up 1,812 from the prior year, but passenger counts fell to 11,614 from 21,346 in 1955. West Yellowstone was Montana’s second busiest with 36,732 autos. The report attributes the overall passenger drop to new signs directing tourists to stop, which many ignored, leading to fewer stopping cars. Station attendants worked 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., counting cars and passengers and distributing maps.
