Beaverhead County Jury-Term Opens With Women Serving

Beaverhead county opened its spring district court jury term with women serving on the panel for the first time. Five women were chosen to try Miller Development Company versus Thomas W. Kess, alongside seven male jurors. Judge Albert Besancon of Missoula presides. next case is Bankers Commercial Security Company versus Charles Pilgrim.

College Awards Show Recipients Named

At a recent awards assembly, letters and emblems were conferred for art, debate, and music. Romell Wiles of Ennis received a three brush emblem, Anne Ivans of Bozeman and Alberta Sparlin of Miles City earned two brush emblems, while Debaters Claribel Houchen Fairview Virginia Hudson Helena Andwew Pickorick Dillon Howard Mailey Twin Bridges William Tower Lima and Robert Hollor in Dillon were awarded debate letters.

Local Ski Club to Stage The Whole Town Is Talking Play

Dillon theatre goers will see the ski club production The Whole Town Is Talking on April 12 and 13 at the high school auditorium. The comedy by John Emerson and Anita Loos follows a Sandusky family during a visit by a movie star and features Henry Simmons the playboy father.

Mrs. Hattie Hadzor of Butte honored Mizpah chapter Dillon with a visit and banquet at the Masonic hall. Eastern Stars from out of town attended as grand officers joined local members. Warm Easter services across Dillon churches featured sunrise candlelight at the Lutheran church and evening programs with choral music.

Rotary hears student talk on railroads

Carl Davis guest from Beaverhead county high school presented the railroad situation in the United States to the Rotary club. He noted American railroads are among the finest but financially strapped, under taxed, and unable to pay current expenses. He cited government ownership as a proposal with many obstacles. Reverend W G Lewis, new club member, commented.

Girl Scout Drive in Dillon Raises $260 Report

Dillon's Girl Scout drive, conducted two weeks ago, raised a total of $260, with only a few districts to be reported. Mrs. Frank Tyre, campaign chairman, said the amount matches last year and falls short of the goal, prompting possible additional fundraising. Donations may be made by contacting Mrs Tyre or listed committee members including Mrs Howard Morse and Mrs George Hughes.

Local Field Army Named In Campaign In Dillon

Mrs. E G Free is named Beaverhead county captain for the year by Mrs H W Peterson state commander of the Women's Field Army of the American Society for the Control of Cancer. Aimed at educational outreach in March and enlistment in April the drive includes talks by doctors and free pamphlets.

Winter Team Honor Roll Led by Four at Montana State Normal

Four students topped the winter quarter honor roll at Montana State Normal College with perfect three grade points per credit. William M. Johnson of Great Falls, Ethel Clarine Moore of Lolo, Paul L. Simons of Dillon, and Viola Sullivan of Charlo were named. Twenty four students earned honor list places as the college raised quarterly requirements beginning this year.

Beaverhead High School opens new $325000 building

Beaverhead county high school's splendid new structure, valued at $325000, will be officially opened on Friday March 29. Hundreds of Beaverhead residents are expected to visit as students serve as guides through the modern facilities.

Beaverhead County Judgment Upheld by Montana Supreme Court

The Montana Supreme Court affirmed a Beaverhead County district court ruling finding J. H. Gilbert innocent of fraud or mismanagement in administration. The decision was reported from Helena with the note “Continued on page 4.”

Dillon Gun Club Tunes Up For State Tourney

Pete Westergard broke 49x50 to top the Dillon Gun Club practice shoot at the local traps as a tune up for Montana Standard telegraphic tourney opening next month. Westergard later placed runner up in Sunday rifle shoot at the high school range with 252x300, behind F Seybold at 254x300. Talent was runner up in the trapshoot at 48x50 with other scores listed for 50 birds.

Tularemia Found To Be In This Vicinity Warning

Beaverhead county acting deputy game warden Jack Thompson announced last week that tularemia exists among fur bearing animals in the vicinity. Trappers handling muskrats and beaver pelts are advised to use rubber gloves after a dead beaver was found near Armstead and several shineoats were sent to the same section.
