A school caucus convenes at the training school next Saturday night March 26 at 8 o clock to nominate a candidate for trustee of Dillon District No. 10. It is called by Chairman J. E. Monroe and Clerk F. P. Bulger of the board of trustees. George M. Gosman’s term expires this year.
In Armstead a shooting Monday left Clay Roselle and Rudy Elkins dead after Jim Nolan opened fire then killed himself hours later. Sheriff Orr and a posse surrounded Nolan in a cabin following the deadly incident.
Beavored members plan for a state conven tion of the D A R in the county with about 50 delegates from all chapters expected to attend next Wednesday and Thursday March 30 and 31 state officers including Mrs Charles S Passmore Mrs R C Dillivan Mrs O C Kistler and Mrs Fred Woodside to be present.
Rev Father F X Lechner spoke on St Patrick at the Dillon Rotary Club lunch in the Andrus hotel dining room. He described Patrick’s influence on the Irish diaspora and noted many Irish Americans have risen to leadership, with communities sharing in the reverence.
The Dillon Orange Crush band announces a series of dances next month with events on April 2 in Virginia City April 9 in Melrose April 13 in Dillon and April 23 in Ennis. Dancing runs 9 to 3 at all locations except Dillon where it ends at 1. The group has grown in popularity since forming last year.
At the Dillon Golf Club sports committee meeting, firms may donate golf prizes up to 10 dollars in value. accepted items must suit golf and avoid favoritism criticisms. A sharp 4 second earthquake shock hit Dillon at 13 40 Monday morning. minimal damage and no reports elsewhere.
Dillon churches prepare for Easter with Union Good Friday services at Grace M E Church at 8 PM led by Rev. J A Meeke and devotion by Rev. T J Simons and scripture by Rev. R O Shannon. Music by united choirs and morning worship at Grace including baptism and reception of members with Easter Dawn offertory and The Risen Life sermon by Dr. J A Meeks.
Dr. Sheldon E. Davis of Montana State Normal College has his book Teaching the Elementary Curriculum named among Sixty Educational Books of 1931. The list is chosen by national education specialists for the American Library Association and the Journal of the National Education Association. The volume has received favorable reviews and strong demand since its publication last year.
Jack Pedrotti 46, a railroad section laborer with Oregon Short Line, died of a heart attack at his Lima home last Friday. Coroner James E. Phillips ruled the cause. Surviving brothers include Henry Pedrotti of Dillon and two others in Salt Lake City. Body shipped to Salt Lake City for interment.
The Smith-Hughes agricultural department at the high school announced the Future Farmers chapter sponsored event will now be held Saturday night April 2 in the high school gym. Ranchers of the county and families are invited. The postponement avoids Good Friday. An admission of 50 cents per family.
Members of the Dillon Gun club will compete in the state tele graphic shoot after receiving an invitation from Secretary B W Emerick. The first event is set for April 3 with gun clubs statewide participating. A recent practice at the fairgrounds crowned Roy Forrester and Hiram Brundage as top shooters.
Life Scout rank and several merit badges will be conferred at the Dillon Boy Scouts monthly court of honor to be held at the courthouse Friday night. Candidates for the badges were named by the board of review at its regular meeting Friday night.
District meets in Dillon Lima and Wisdom selected county finalists for the George Washington bicentennial declamation contest. Winners in each grade group from Dillon Lima Wisdom advance to county or state levels with several named students earning top spots. The Dillon training school hosted the event with multiple grade divisions recognizing winners in seventh and eighth, fifth and sixth, and third and fourth grades.
Miss Harriet Bills was summoned to Richfield Utah last Sunday due to the death of her father, prompting family travel and funeral arrangements in the small desert town.
Three men are dead after a shooting at a soft drink parlor in Armstead Monday night. Clay Roselle and Rudy Elkins were killed. Jim Nolan later died by his own hand after a gun battle with officers. No motive or witnesses have been found.
A lively program of music and dancing will be presented tonight at the training school auditorium under the Dillon Parent-Teacher Association. The lineup includes high school orchestra selections directed by L A Gregory and the one act play Meet the Counters directed by Violet Eastman featuring Catherine Bates and Audreys Tovey among others.
Four city aldermen whose terms expire this year were renominated at the annual citizens caucus held last Wednesday night at the city hall. George M. Gosman was chosen for the first ward. Albert Featherly for the second. A. G. Williams for the third. John T. Orr for the fourth. Mayor H. L. McCaleb presided. F. D. Willis was secretary. About 75 voters attended. Election is Monday, April 4. the four candidates are without opposition.
Mrs. C. B. Culver, who spent the winter in Dillon, has returned to her home in the Centennial valley.
A Montana State Normal college program will be aired from KGIR in Butte on Saturday afternoon April 16 at 2 o'clock. The Little Symphony orchestra directed by Miss Frances Robinson will perform selections, the college girls choir will sing, and vocal piano and violin solos will be featured. The Dillon Chorus club recently broadcast an hour from the same station.
