The Army outlines a policy allowing men with dependents to enlist to qualify as officers with a fallback to enlisted reserves if they do not make the grade. Eligible ages are 18 to 45, with four months in replacement centers or field units before Officer Candidates' School. The plan supports the year goal of 75,000 officers from 95,000 candidates.
The 1942 Legionantics show under Dr. Marlio K. Farmer fills the high school auditorium with demand for Friday and Saturday performances. Organizers report strong reserved-seat sales and consider repeat shows in other towns after an explosive opening.
Chamber of Commerce discussed moving Armstead stock yards to the old Gilmore & Pitts burg site. The next open forum for county development will be at Sally Ann Bakery at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Good Friday observance referred to retail committee. A county-wide wage scale for farm and ranch workers was approved for distribution to operators.

James E. Phillips died at his son in law Roy Webster’s ranch on Rattlesnake creek at age 91. He managed an employment office locally until last year and served 19 years as county coroner ending in 1940. He helped pioneer the West with ties to Deadwood Lead and figures like Wild Bill Hickok and Buffalo Bill. He participated as chief packer for General Crook in Black Hills campaigns.
Sugar rationing plans are delayed after a wire from state rationing officer Tom D. Caverly. March 9 10 for trade outlets and March 17 20 for consumers were initial targets, with 28 week cards issued and to be filled with full applicant details.
Dillon grade school pupils have joined wartime projects since Pearl Harbor. By March 6 the 465 pupils had bought bonds and stamps totaling 4348, much from earnings and sacrifices rather than gifts. Industrial arts students are making 26 model airframes.

Draper & Co of Boston top bid in Beaverhead county wool pool with five sealed bids approved by Co Agt Bernard Williams. The 12,000 fleece clip fetched 41 5 8 cents per pound, higher than last year's 37 1 2 cents for the top third. Parke T. Scott presides, John Albers is secretary treasurer, and 51 members contributed fleeces ranging from a few dozen to several hundred. Sales total near 1,500,000 pounds for 1942. Whitworth & Sons clip brought 42 4 cents per pound via Monroe Kincaid & Edgehill.
After a Beaverhead county signup drive last fall the USDA War board aided by Triple-A officials launches Plant for Victory week. The effort mobilizes farmers to draft farm plans for 1942 production, with county boards guiding local issues and reporting to state boards and the Secretary of Agriculture. Similar programs run in 54 Montana counties and across the nation.

James M. Landis of the Office of Civilian Defense designates the American Legion to train thousands of citizen volunteers nationwide. Key Legionnaires from each state will undergo 10 day courses at seven national schools, then establish local posts to train volunteers and Legionnaires. OCD specifications ensure graduates qualify for enrollment in the citizens defense corps.

Dillon Ski club hosted its first tournament last Sunday at Elkhorn with corn snow making ideal conditions. The program featured downhill and slalom races and an exhibition jump. Joe Bergeson won the men's downhill in 50 seconds, with Anker Larsen second and J W McCracken third. Loretta Buss led the women’s downhill in 1 minute 9 seconds with Sylvia Nelson second.
Beaverhead Post postpones its regular meeting to next Thursday due to the Legionautics show at the high school auditorium. A show report and other matters will be discussed. D V Paddock asks members to wear full dress uniforms to act as ushers for the Friday and Saturday performances with Harold Warner in charge of usher duty.
