Beavers Reach State Tourney After Dominant Sub-State Run

Beaverhead County high school’s Beavers won the Class B sub-state final in Billings defeating Forsyth 21-15 to earn a spot in the Havre state round robin. Coach Carl Rosas’ squad enters the Havre event as favorites with games against Anaconda Great Falls and Wolf Point after strong showings versus Big Timber and Red Lodge.

Mrs Willard Claimed by Illness in Beaverhead Valley

Elizabeth Willard wife of J L Willard died at her ranch home last Wednesday morning after a brief illness. A native of Boone County North Carolina she was 67. Resident of Beaverhead County since 1912 she helped in local affairs. Surviving are her husband a daughter Mrs James Davis of Butte and three sons Bert Bruce and Charles Greene all of Dillon. Funeral held Saturday from the family home and at the Mountain View cemetery with Rev A Meeke officiating. Interment in Mountain View.

Beaverhead Officials Outline County Economic Program

The Beaverhead economic conference at City Hall drew ranchers from across the county. M H Saunderson and Roy B Haight along with L P Reitz outlined the agricultural adjustment program and county plans to be completed in spring 1938. Bernard Williams led the event with four sessions over two days.

In the Big Hole Basin a stream of cattle moved from Grasshopper Valley with shipments to Denver Los Angeles Hormel Meat Co Austin Minn and Los Angeles markets. Larry Redmond sent three carloads to Denver and William Harry sourced five to Los Angeles while others purchased heifers and packed cars for Hormel Carpenter and Butts markets.

Montana State Normal College gains A class accreditation

At a St Louis meeting the American Association of Teachers Colleges kept Montana State Normal College on the list of fully accredited four year institutions with the A class rating. The college meets all nine standards for accreditation. A few institutions meet eight standards, and one or two are not fully compliant.

Snow depths across Beaverhead forest indicate ample water for irrigation. U S forest service reports high snowpack in Birch Creek lakes and surrounding areas with depths from forty to eighty two inches. Normal Takes Bobcats Here In Cage Playoff Opener

Montana Normal College Bulldogs won their first ever over the Montana State College Bobcats 33-31 on Saturday. The following night they were routed by the School of Mines 49-28 in Butte in the opening game of a state Small College conference playoff. The second game is set for tomorrow night in this city with a possible third game the following Saturday.

Auction Sale at Jacobson Ranch Is Set

An auction at the W. M. Jacobson ranch three miles north of Dillon on the river road is set for next Wednesday March 18. Col Luthersmith acts as auctioneer with Judson Stahl as clerk. Livestock includes nine horses and fifteen cattle with nine cows three Holstein steers one Holstein heifer one Guernsey heifer and one Guernsey bull. Also three brood sows and three dozen chickens will be sold. Machinery includes a three section harrow four wagons with racks and other items.

The Men’s Glee Club will present its second annual musical festival at the college auditorium on Friday night March 26, announced by Grace Redburn, director. Last year’s program was a standout event, and local residents anticipate the 1936 production. Funeral services for A Carleton Innes held at St James

Funeral services for the late A Carleton Innes were held Friday afternoon at the St James Episcopal church with Rev H N Tragitt officiating. The Dillon Masonic fraternity conducted graveside rites at Mountain View cemetery. Pallbearers included Jerdine Rife Elza Obs Orr Wie Be Aloyd and Pearl E Smith.

Political Action to Start Soon in City Election

The city election is set for Monday April 6 1936 kicking off heated political activity. A total of 1561 electors are registered across four precincts 396 in Guildhall 637 at city hall 305 at Metlen hotel and 323 at Red Star garage. Aldermen elected next month will serve one year to allow two year terms from 1937 under new state statutes. Lima shows 227 registered voters with 118 in Ward 1 and 109 in Ward 2.

Beaverhead county finances are reported in good shape with a Jan 31 balance across all funds of 134,097.60 despite reduced valuation and tax revenue. Warrants outstanding total 0,863.76 while the trust and agency fund holds 60,120.62 and the high school fund 7,962.43.

Wisdom Man Returns From Eastern Cattle Sale and Ride

H. L. Armitage returned to Wisdom after guiding 113 head of cattle to Omaha, finding market conditions unsatisfactory he fed the herd and then traveled to Detroit to buy a new Plymouth car. He noted fresh demand across Nebraska Iowa Illinois Wisconsin Minnesota and North Dakota with Montana also showing activity.
