Plan for Beet Sugar Factory in Beaverhead Valley

City Council Plans Election Appointments and Public Work

At the March meeting Mayor White appointed city election judges and clerks for each ward with polling locations listed. The council reported February arrests and fines, approved saloon permits for Dolan and Robb, referred Cahill’s permit, granted a plumber’s license to RE E Marcoe, and accepted bonds for his company. They also accepted Alderman Riley’s resignation and considered a sewer along the Washington to Pacific alley.

Gamble Concert Company to Open Normal College Hall

Opera chairs and electric lighting fixtures are being installed for the new assembly hall at the Normal College. The Gamble Concert Company will perform Saturday evening as the hall’s first event with a formal opening to follow later. Season tickets and single admission seats will go on sale Thursday at the post office store for one dollar.

Big Auction Sale Of Horses In Dillon Planned For March

Plans materialized this week for a large horse sale in Dillon starting Tuesday March 24 to be among the state’s biggest. Charles A. Smith leads the effort with 500 to 600 head expected including draft driving saddle horses and mules. Listings already exceed 500 head with many more anticipated as buyers from across the country show interest amid revived southwest industry and the Butte mine reopening. Notable firms listed include Poindexter & Orrr Livestock Co Anderson Bros John W Morton C Al Smith Tash Lenkersdorfer K W Slack J G Arwin J B Morse George Murray Al Hatton EK Trook George Baker John Sutherland Warry Rash Steve Davis and others. Smith expects additions before sale day inviting all horse owners to participate. Auctioneer William Jelland of Waterloo Iowa will attend and Halland the renowned auctioneer will also be present drawing nationwide buyers. Sale terms levy five percent under $100 three percent over $100 five percent on stallions and $1 per head on un-gelded horses. Beaverhead County Appoints Road Supervisors Amid Budget Talks

Beaverhead County Montana board met March sessions approving road budgets and appointing 12 road supervisors led by Charles Wells in Dillon and J J Lewis in Lima. A $1000 grant to Beaverhead County Fair was authorized with a county agricultural commission to be formed and funded from the general fund.

Farmers Institute Planned for Dell and Dillon

Beaverhead County Farmers and Stockgrowers Association prepares a two day program for March 30 and 31. The Dell session opens the event with President Geo R Featherly leading activities. Dillon daytime program features talks by F S Cooley and professors Atkinson and Elliott on agriculture, sugar beet culture, and milking. Evening at the High School includes songs, papers, an ethics address, a cooking demonstration, and music by local artists.

Pulver Fights for Life After Butte Wound

Emery Pulver lies in grave danger after a Wednesday shooting tied to a hold up involving Henry Cahill. Doctors report the bullet pierced the diaphragm and liver, missing the intestines, and remains unextracted.
