James Mauldin Dies in Los Angeles at 87

James Mauldin died in Los Angeles on February 28 at age 87. His remains are returned to his East End Maryland home for funeral and interment. A pioneer with business interests in Dillon Helena Butte and other Montana cities, Mauldin built a large fortune and left an estate valued at about one million dollars. He is survived by a sister and other Maryland relatives.

Brightest Beaverhead High School Student Wins Rodgers Gilbert Scholarship

Harold Blinn, son of Mr and Mrs Blinn, named top student at Old Blinn High School for two years with a 92.3 average. He wins the Rodgers Gilbert scholarship, earning a paid trip to the state basketball tournament in Bozeman. He departs with the Beaverhead delegation. he is 15, a junior in science studies.

City Council Regular Monthly Session Meets With Aldermen Present

The city council held its regular monthly meeting with Aldermen Waldorf Scully Bowers Lloyd and Anderson present. Waldorf presided in place of Mayor Cornell and council president Leonard Eel. Routine business and department reports were submitted. Polling places for the city election were designated and officials appointed. The county commissioners also met in their regular monthly session at the county courthouse with no other business reported.

Stockholders of Beaverhead- Alberta Oil & Gas report encouraging results from a year of drilling near Smallhorn canyon. oil traces were found in the latest tally close to a 2000 foot depth with oil sands expected within about 100 feet. previous small finds in the field are noted and a second well progression continues amid obstacles.

Legion 5 OW Performance Repeats At Hartwig Theater Tonight

American Legion minstrelsy at Hartwig theatre opens tonight with sold out seats and a repeat tomorrow. Byron Hill directs assisted by Taft MacGregor McGrath amid a long team of staff and a Baxter Tonrey orchestra providing overtures and numbers. The show features Browning Hartwig Harrison and a large chorus performing songs including Chinese Moon Birds of a Feather and Wabash Blues with Bud Hartwig as lead performer.

Cannon relic brought to Deer Lodge from Big Hole battlefield

A Civil War era mountain howitzer captured by Nez Perce during the Big Hole battle has traveled from Deer Lodge to the Big Hole basin. After years in the penitentiary yard it will be moved to the battlefield with a shelter planned. Senator Hazelbaker and Congressman Ridick seek the official history of the cannon.

Dillon Rod and Gun Club Plans Regular Shoot Next Sunday

The Dillon Rod and Gun Club will hold a regular shoot next Sunday afternoon at the fairgrounds. It is the first shoot in many weeks and is expected to draw every member to participate.

MRS. MORROW DIES AT RANCH HOME IN DILLON

Margaret Morrow died last Thursday at her ranch on the east bench after weeks of pernicious anemia. The funeral Sunday at 2 p.m. was led by Rev. Edw. Smith and held under the Eastern Star, of which she was a longtime member. She was over 67 and had lived in Dillon five years. She is survived by her husband, daughter May Morrow Or Willon, two sons Edwad of Dillon and Raymond of Butte, a brother Morris Peters of Albion Illinois, and five sisters: Florence Smith Albion Illinois Nora Mc Cable Los Angeles Gabe Quiot Cabot Arkansas Dena Quiberson Butte.

Aged Pioneer Wm Bryan Dies of Influenza on Big Hole River

Wm Bryan, 85, a pioneer of the Big Hole region, died at his ranch near Hog's Back after two weeks of influenza. Remains brought to Dillon. funeral held at Brundage parlors with Rev. T W Bennett officiating. Interment Mountain View cemetery. Survived by wife and eight children. siblings and several reside in Spokane and Seattle.

Young Girls Sent to Helena Vocational School

Audrey and Elmire Snyder were brought from Lima to Dillon late last week. Judge Smith ordered they be sent to Helena for vocational school. Deputy Sheriff Ditty and Mrs. Fred Oliver transported them yesterday. They will be educated and learn a vocation at the Helena institution.

Infant dies in Dillon residence of Venfreito family

Eight months old Barney Venfreito died Thursday morning at the family home in the north end of town. Interment followed on Saturday. The parents recently moved to Dillon from Bannack.

Dillon Set for Regular City Election in April

Dillon will hold a regular city election on Monday April 3 with four aldermen to be chosen one from each ward. Incumbents retiring are Louis Anderson Leonard Eliel Perry Bowers and A F Waldorf. Polling places were set and election officials appointed for each ward.
