Beavers Rally To Take Bozeman Win In District Tourney

Beaverhead high basket men won 26 22 at Bozeman last Wednesday night to clear the way for a state title bid. Their stumbling start gave way in the final quarter as they prepared to meet Butte High on the Mines court with Coach Gunderson guiding the Blue and Gold toward the next district clash. The Beavers hope a favorable semifinal pairing, likely Butte, will boost their chances in the state tournament.

Free Clinic Examines Eleven Children At Barrett Hospital

Eleven children were examined at a free clinic held at Barrett Hospital last Friday by Dillon physicians and County Nurse Miss Bertha Lamberton. The event, sponsored by the Department of Child Welfare of the Parent Teachers Association, aims to have all children entering school next fall examined to correct any defects before starting. Additional clinics will be held in April and later dates, with Dillon physicians donating services.

McLaughlin to Represent BeaVerbead County in Extemp

Clifton McLaughlin will leave tomorrow for Butte to represent Beaverhead County High School in the extemporaneous speaking contest connected with the state basketball tournament. Dillon student won second in the mining district extemp contest and, with Helena Anaconda and Butte Central, will represent the mining district in the state event. Ellen Galusha of Helena High won first in the girls’ division, Mary Daugherty of Central and Joseph Cannon of Anaconda took third and fourth. The Dillon student spoke on government control of aviation in the district contest.

John Lenkerndorfer, longtime Logan resident, died last Saturday. He had lived in Utah for ten years and was active in ranching with his brother William Lenkersdorfer and W G Tash on Grasshopper.

Beaverhead Man Killed by Posse After Gunfight

Charles Bock, 65, a Dillon carpenter, was shot and killed by a posse after wounding Sheriff Orr and engaging officers during an arrest attempt on a disturbance charge. Orr, Undersheriff Hartwig, and Chief Nelson confronted him at his Barnett avenue cabin. Bock fired first, and his body was hit by eleven bullets and buckshot.

Shufelt Auction Draws Wide Rancher Attendance

The W. M. Shufelt ranch near Bond station held an auction yesterday that drew scores of ranchers from across the county. Luther Smith served as auctioneer and Bert Williams acted as clerk as Shufelt disposed of all interests after leasing the ranch. Fred Hansen is spending the home in Centennial valley.
