The Beaverhead County High School Band under J A Gregory played each night of the mining district tournament. Crowds praised their beautiful selections as they performed before games and during intermissions in the gym balcony.
Clifton McLaughlin places second in the extemporaneous speaking contest held last Saturday. Beavers need a big win over Big Timber tonight to advance to the state tournament in the Mining District.
Dillon's district tournament ended with Anaconda High winning the Montana State Normal College cup by 24-20 over Missoula. Butte Central took third after a one-point win over Butte High. Dillon finished fourth after a grueling schedule. Captain Danny Haney of Butte Central received the American Legion cup as MVP. Large, enthusiastic crowds attended the six sessions and officials praised smooth conduct and strong local support.
Custer County High of Miles City will face Beaverhead in the Beaverhead first game of the state tournament if Dillon defeats Big Timber tonight in Bozeman. The seventh game could pit Custer against Sweet Grass or Beaverhead. Miles City is seen as a top eastern contender after sweeping the eastern district tournament. Game set for Thursday afternoon March 8.
Ellen Galusha of Helena won the mining district extemporaneous speaking contest held at the Normal College auditorium last Saturday morning. Clifton McLaughlin of Beaverhead High took second. Both will represent their schools in the state contest in Butte next week in connection with the basketball tournament.

Principal A. T. Peter and Miss Hirschman are praised for the school’s achievement as Miss Van Horn notes the department’s high standards after an unannounced Montana College visit.
Two Dillon players earned spots on the all-district teams after the mining district tournament on Saturday night. Beaverhead center George Yost was a unanimous first-team guard, while Franik Little was chosen as the other guard for the first team for his standout season and strong tournament play.
