Construction begins on the Andrus hotel in Dillon, a three story building with an entire basement, 115 by 765 feet, pressed brick and cement, five store fronts, a pool hall, and a first class cafe. The project, bid by Sound Construction & Engineering, must be completed by August 1 with daily penalties after that date.

Eliel Store Damaged by Fire Last Friday
A fire at the Eliel store in the rear of the gent s furnishing shop caused about 3000 dollars in damage. Spontaneous combustion is suspected. John Neil discovered the blaze around 6 o clock, the department extinguished it with chemical, damaging the floor ceiling fixtures and many wearing apparel items.

Markets Were Never Better For Beaverhead Livestock
Beaverhead markets stay strong with high prices for horses cattle wool and mutton. A spring equine sale is set for March 23 and 24 with several buyers in town. February sale saw over 100 horses sold at top prices as fat stock drew eager bidders. About 400 head from Yellowstone park will join the 1000 horses in circulation. Beef steers fattened in the county are shipping out. 650 prime steer were loaded for Tacoma by W J Boomer for Carston Packing from John Peterson’s Horse Prairie ranch.

New Montana Game Law Details Licenses and Seasons
The assembly pass an act imposing licenses for men over 14 and women over 18, with deer closed in five counties and limited bag rules. Elk open season runs October 1 to December 1, ducks September 15 to December 1, grouse up to September 16 to October 1, and beaver trapping by permit. Bear may be killed year round. Five game preserves named, two bird sanctuaries on Flathead Lake islands. Nonresident licenses set at $50 for fishing and hunting, $15 for feathered game and fish, $3 fishing license, and $25 special elk license for Gallatin and Park counties.

Joe Vannoy Dies in Santa Fe New Mexico
Word was received in Dillon of the death of Joe Vannoy in Santa Fe New Mexico on February 14. He had gone to Santa Fe two months earlier to improve his health after chronic stomach trouble. An operation followed his arrival and he did not recover. Interment was in Santa Fe. Vannoy was known in Beaverhead county and Melrose where he operated in the sheep industry before selling his ranch and flock to Kaiser and Balen about a year ago.

Two Ranch Deals Move Big Grasshopper Outfit and Hansen Place
Ames Sheep Company sells its 1160 acre Grasshopper ranch to Matt Anderson and Berg Christiansen, along with 7500 sheep and multiple stock. The sale exceeds $100,000 and includes best buildings and equipment. Kenison buys Ras Hansen ranch near Sheep Creek basin for 100 per acre with 70 horses. Kelly Pleads Guilty and Receives Prison Term
George Kelly, who had entered a not guilty plea, changed to guilty in district court and was sentenced to not less than one nor more than two years in the state prison at Deer Lodge. Judge Jos C. Smith presided as the burglary charge and a robbery count was dismissed. He allegedly burglarized an Elliott cabin in January.

New Dormitory Planned for Normal College Confirmed
The state allocates fifty thousand dollars for a new dormitory at the Normal college with $25,000 to be spent in 1917 and 1918. Prof Lee R Light of Manhattan will direct the new department in conjunction with three rural schools. Ground breaking will occur when weather allows and the site will be chosen for accessibility and scenic view.

New Ward Added as Dillon Plans April 2 City Election
Dillon schedules a regular city election for Monday April 2 with a mayor and five aldermen to be chosen. Registration closed last Friday. Each ward elects two aldermen for two years. Ward No 4, created last year, covers the area north of Bannack Street between Oregon Short Line tracks and the district between Washington and Pacific streets. Two aldermen will be elected from this ward.

A crew is building an eightfoot wide balcony along the south wall of C H Niblack's store extending sixteen feet from the rear. Bids Set For Beaverhead Bridges In County Session
Beaverhead County commissioners met in regular session and awarded bids for two new bridges. Clifton-Applegate of Anaconda won the 112 foot steel Beaverhead River bridge near Dillon for 5740. H W Perham of St Anthony Idaho won the 60 foot wooden Big Hole River bridge near Wisdom for 1600. George R Metlen, state highway commission secretary, attended the meeting.

Barry Mathews Injured in Bannack Mine Fall
Barry Mathews a Bannack miner narrowly escaped death after a rock and dirt slide at the original Bannack mine Sunday morning. He suffered a broken bone in the foot and bruises and was the only injury reported. He was taken to his home in Dillon where he is recovering as expected.
