Western Bulldogs Face MSU Grizzlies For State Title Bid

Western Montana's Bulldogs prepare for a two game series in Missoula against Montana State University Grizzlies to decide the state championship and earn a trip to Kansas City for the National Intercollegiate tournament. The Grizzlies defeated the Bobcats 71-51 then 72-56 to advance to the Anaconda playoff on March 6. The Bullpups junior varsity side, coached by Carl Davis, improved to 16 wins and two losses after beating Ennis 75-51 and Whitehall 48-36 as Aleisich and Patton led scoring.

Gilbert Named In California Death Notice

Chester Gilbert Jr 74 longtime Dillon area native died in Long Beach California last Wednesday February 22 after a long heart illness He was born May 18 1885 in Dillon son of W R and Mrs Gilbert He worked at First National Bank Dillon retired 1936 and moved to California in 1938 where he ran a hotel and cleaning business Surviving are wife three sons Montana Gilbert of Dillon a sister and six grandchildren Funeral and burial held in California.

National Guard Pay Rolls Reach Dillon Community Total Nears Ten Thousand

Co. G Guard unit receives first payroll of 1393.69 for past eight meetings. Future payrolls for twelve meetings total about 3000 and the year’s final payments could approach 5000, with about ten thousand overall for the community. Stolen 1949 Hudson Recovered in Dillon

Chief of Police Dan Mooney recovered a 1949 Hudson sedan abandoned on Dillon streets. The car, bearing Colorado plates, had been stolen from Great Falls on Saturday Feb 25, and Mooney notified Great Falls officials, holding the vehicle for their investigation.

Polio Drive Totals $2 174.50 in Beaverhead County

County polio drive chairman Don J. Smith reports $2 174.50 collected as of Monday Feb 27 with donations from Lima Dell Monida Armstead and Grant Jackson Dillon and other local sources. 17th Decennial Census Set for Beaverhead County

A census force of about ten will be employed in Beaverhead County for the 17th decennial census in April. Nine enumerators will conduct house to house surveys with one crew leader supervising field work. Beaverhead district staff of eight will edit reports and tabulate data at district offices. Examinations for crew leader and enumerator posts will be held March 2 at the Melton Insurance office.

Mrs. Rachel Jones aged 75, longtime Beaverhead County resident, died at her son in law and daughter C E Hone home in Gunnison Utah after major surgery. Born August 16, 1874 in Sigourney Iowa she moved to Centennial Valley in 1894 after marrying Phillip J Jones. Beaverhead County High School Beavers return from Billings with a gold and walnut trophy for fourth place in the Southern Division Class B tournament and medals for tournament participation. On February 23 they lost to the Laurel Locomotives 49 to 40, trailing with several missed scoring chances.

Drive Against Magpies Campaign Announced in Beaverhead

Beaverhead Sportsmen association led by Pres. Eddie Hilger plans a drive against magpies this year offering 10 cents per each pair of legs turned in during March and April. The Sport Shop will receive and pay for the campaign citing prior drives that reduced local magpie numbers.

National Guard Open House and Military Ball Planned in Dillon

National Guard unit in Dillon schedules an open house March 4 at 7 30 p m at the Guard HQ basement W M C E gym to display weapons and equipment with demonstrations by Dillon Rifle Company members under Sergeant First Class Jack Lohr.
