Scout Master Alvord Leads Local Boy Scout Meeting

Attorney Alvord presided at the Boy Scout club rooms Monday night with over forty boys present. Four complete patrols took the scout oath while portions of two other patrols waited to finish before oath. Some scouts attended for the first time and others prepared for the tenderfoot exam. After local office hours or holidays, callers can connect to a distant Western Union office and deliver telegrams by telephone without local circuit charges. Early Pioneer Philip H Poindexter Dies South of Beaverhead

Philip H Poindexter an early Beaverhead County pioneer died at his home Sunday morning. Born September 5 1831 in Danville Virginia he trained as a cabinet maker and moved via Missouri to California in 1852 and joined a pioneer wagon train. His partnership with William C Orr spanned forty five years until Orrs death in 1901.

Pioneer Philip Poindexter Dies at His Beaverhead Ranch

Philip H. Poindexter a leading Beaverhead County figure since the 1860s died at 9:30 am Sunday February 26 at The Cottonwoods ranch three miles south of Dillon after a brief illness and a stroke. He built Montana industries and led by example, leaving a large circle of family and pioneer colleagues. Services were held at The Cottonwoods and at the Dillon Masonic temple with burial in Poindexter Cemetery beside family members.

Barry Declines Big League Offer for Local Duties

M E Barry, a popular Dillon baseball talent, reportedly attracted a top salary offer from John McCloskey’s Union League group to join next season. McCloskey touted Barry as a future big leaguer, but Barry, serving as bank teller at First National and manager of Montana Auto Supply, declined the offer. The Butte Miner article notes Barry’s fielding acumen and speedy, reliable play, with McCloskey predicting a strong trial if he joined.

telegram from Representative Frank Eliel in Helena reports Centennial valley bill passed the house tonight 87 to 10 and sent to senate for concurrence. Governor Norris is expected to sign. Beav erhead county boundary change would bring Centennial valley residents into Dillon for county business in a single day. Ranchers have backed the measure and lobbied in Helena.

Rancher Robert Bidstrup Injured In Hay Dispute

Robert Bidstrup a well known rancher was seriously injured yesterday when struck over the head with a blunt instrument by John Laden. The incident followed a dispute over moving hay on a lease ranch tied to Mrs. Rose Heavy and the Hammond place. Bidstrup lies in critical condition.

Beaverhead High Heads to Bozeman Midwinter Tourney

Beaverhead county high school basketball squad along with Paul Stahl and Attorney Hardyman Duff left for Bozeman to compete in the mid winter tournament. Players include Max Wiclomb Adolph Stewart George Cosman Findley Watson Ray Willie and Paul Henneberry. George Gosman will also compete in the extemporaneous speaking contest at the Montana Agricultural College.
