Philip Lovell Pioneer Citizen of Beaverhead Dies

Philip Lovell a longtime Beaverhead County resident and England native died at 9:45 Tuesday after a long illness due to diabetes with abscesses. Born 1840 in Duffield England he came to North America in 1860, helped settle Bannack and ran a major stage station at Lovell’s, later accruing a large ranching fortune. He was a Mason of high standing and the funeral Thursday at 3:30 PM in the Masonic Temple will be conducted by the local Masons with sermon by Rev. Dr. Martin.

Park Copper mine shows ore strike in Park shaft

R M Cobban treasurer of Park Copper reports a new ore strike in the south crosscut at the 200 foot level. The vein enters 15 feet with extensive surface work and promising indications on both 200 and 80 foot levels. Bond actions and tunnel plans issued as stock details and ownership interests updated.

FE Anrdus and family from Medicine Lodge visited Dillon this week. Henry L Melton of the University of Michigan returned home yesterday and spoke at the Baptist church Sunday evening.

Selle-Floto Circus Delights Dillon Crowd In Big Show

A large Dillon audience enjoyed the Selle-Floto circus with red lemonade vendors sold out and crowds from the county. The show, in its third year here, is praised for a clean, well managed performance with clever acts and exactly as advertised. The packed tent marked strong local appreciation for the annual visit.

Thirty three will graduate in State Normal College class

Commencement week centers on the graduation of the class of 07 with thirty three members the largest yet. Events include a commencement concert tonight a commencement at ten thirty Friday morning and a senior dinner bac calaureate address and a drama on campus with an alumni reunion junior banquet and several appoint- ments to teaching positions for the graduates.

Body of Missing Man Found in Sheep Canyon Creek

The body of Mike Shaffer of Poindexter & Orr Livestock was found last Saturday in Sheep Canyon Creek by L. K. Adama and A. A. McDonald. Decomposition prevented identification. knife and pocket book aided recognition. Officials say exposure likely caused his death after a March disappearance during a blizzard. Funeral was held yesterday conducted by Father Foley.

Dillion Resident Rufus Mathewa Dies Suddenly at Bannack

Rufus Mathewa died suddenly at his Bannack home this morning from heart failure. Born in Independence Missouri he was 57 and lived in Montana since 1870. He leaves a wife and four children and was long active in the Bannack Masons serving as lodge secretary for 25 years and running the Meade hotel. Funeral services are set for tomorrow afternoon at Bannack.

Deal On For Bignorse Ranch Purchase

C B Witter of Helena leads a group with Lewis Penwell and T C Davidson to form a $250000 company to acquire and operate the J E Moree ranch near Dillon. The 8330 deeded acres and 10660 leased acres include about 4000 acres under ditch with hay and grazing land. Penwell has previously organized firms to take over ranches and sheep near White Sulphur Springs, Harlowton, Dorney and Tolston.
