Dillon Man Elected District Legion Commander in Sheridan

Ed Donovan, Mining district vice commander and WW II Seabees veteran, elected district commander at Sheridan meeting. Schilling of Butte named vice commander, Harry Norton finance officer. Dr. Colfer Wins National Research Council Award

Dr. Harry F. Colfer a Mayo Foundation fellow has won the National Research Council award for study with Prof E Adrian of Cambridge England. He will begin a one year fellowship next fall after a post doctoral stint at Mayo Clinic and Mayo Institute of Experimental Medicine. He presented his brain function research at the National Society for Research in Neuropsychiatry in New York and was selected to attend with expenses paid. He earned a PhD early last winter and holds a university appointment enabling clinical and research work. He is a Missoula native linked to local families and educated at State University Missoula.

Archie Henneberry Dies Suddenly in Lima

Beaverhead county commissioner and rancher Archie C. Henneberry died at 2 45 p m last Thursday from a heart attack in Lima He was 57 born August 13 1889 on his family stock ranch near Dillon and had served as county commissioner since 1938 and 1944 He had recently leased his ranch due to ill health and was active in Masonic circles and the Bagdad Shrine in Butte His sudden death followed a day of inland county business and came as a shock to the community.

Beaverhead County 4-H Plans State Camp Representation

Marilyn Gordon of the Armstead Needle club will represent Beaverhead County at the statewide 4-H club camp in Neihart June 16 21. She returns to be recreational director for the county camp at Birch Creek ranger station June 30 July 2 with Barbara Scott assisting.

Million gallon reservoir urged for city water supply

City engineers warned that Dillon’s water system strain will worsen with population growth. A new one million gallon reservoir was urged to ensure dependable supply as extensions reach Kentucky Barnett avenues and California Street. Citizens pressed for action during a long council session with plans for a summer ride program by the Vigilante Rope N Saddle club noted.

Lima Gun Club Wins Davis Trophy

Anaconda June 9 The A J Davis trophy went to the Lima Gun Club after a Sunday shoot produced a first place tie with the Butte Trap and Skeet club at 458 scores. Anaconda finished third, Sheridan fourth, with Lima earning the title by default when a Butte member was called home and forfeited the shoot-off.

Flag Day Observance Planned by Dillon Elks Lodge

Dillon lodge number 1554 BPO Elks set a Flag Day program for June 14 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Exalted Ruler Harry Tashann speaks on the flag’s history, W. G. Gilbert Jr. presents the flag ritual, and Albert Erickson delivers the address. Boy Scouts from Troop 14 assist as the Elks drum and bugle corps led by Dusty Miller parades downtown. Edwin R. Orr elected to state office in PEO convention

Mrs John T Orr was chosen state corresponding secretary at the PEO Sisterhood state convention in Sidney last week. Attending from the area were Mrs C G D Evelyn Mrs F A Hazelbaker and Mrs T Lee McCracken with D Evelyn and McCracken acting as official delegates. D Evelyn later traveled to Minot North Dakota to visit relatives and will attend a niece s wedding in Great Falls before returning home.

Dillon Rodeo Plans To Be Made At Meet Thursday

Plans are in progress for the Dillon Labor Day Rodeo with promises of a superior spectacle. Herman Peterson, president of the rodeo association, says a meeting will be held at the courthouse at 8 p.m. Thursday June 12, inviting stockholders and fans to participate. The event will feature a string of mustangs from Perma Montana and added prize money to attract top riders for the Sunday and Labor Day shows.

VFW Show to Headline Equine Star Ranger at High School

Com. Howard Rundle of Lloyd Whipple post 4163 VFW says about 100 members are enrolled for 1947 and a large delegation will attend the state encampment at Butte June 25 to 28. A show at the high school auditorium next Sunday June 15 will feature Cal Shrum's horse Ranger from movies plus musical and other acts, with afternoon and evening performances.

Summer School Opens At College Monday

Montana State Normal college begins summer session with enrollment around 210 and expected 25 to 50 more registrants by weekend. Students from all parts of Montana and from North Dakota and Washington attend. Dormitories are crowded. classes start Tuesday with regular staff and several new instructors. A faculty reception and dance are planned for Friday night and various events and excursions are scheduled.

Larceny and Forgery Hearings on Monday

Sheriff’s force arrested Angus MacDonald a ranch hand for alleged thefts from the J P Loss home at Wisdom during the previous winter. Robert Hysell charged with forgery pleaded not guilty but remains in custody awaiting district court. James Hulsey pleaded not guilty to petty larceny from the B W Emerick ranch at Lima. A 16 year old from Iowa Indiana faced juvenile court on a forgery charge. custody given to parents.

Mobile X-Ray Unit To Visit Beaverhead County This Week

Tri club meet brings Rotarians from three towns

Sixty Rotarians from Twin Bridges Whitehall and Dillon plus guests from Butte gathered Friday at Pipe Organ Lodge for a Tri club meeting. Speakers included Dr John Schile of Northwest Development in Butte praising Northwest Montana as a prime economic region. District Rural Fire Chiefs Named by Commissioners

Beaverhead County Montana board of county commissioners held a June 2 3 4 1947 regular session. They ordered the clerk to hold road and bridge claims except labor for the July meeting due to budget shortfall and to advertise for bids to hire a county physician for the year starting July 9 1947.

Twilight Shoot By Local Gunners At Traps Thursday

Twilight shoot Thursday evening selected the Dillon Gun club team to defend the A. J. Davis cup against Butte Trap and Skeet and Anaconda Gun club. Ted Renfro Herman Peterson Ted Renfro Jr Russell Smith and John Jackson made the team. Peterson broke 98x100 in twilight. Coffey 87x100. Pete Westergard led 50 third with 49x50. Peterson led doubles with 92x100. Other singles scores included Cragholm 71x75 Sneed 69x75 Smith 62x75 Cornell unknown.
