Blanche Leverich of Wisdom named district president of the Rebekahs with Mable Mayfield of Dillon as secretary and Louise Hoffman of Melrose as vice president. Frank P. Tate chosen as vice president of the Odd Fellows.
June 16 marks the start of shearing by Beaverhead shee pmen as the second big ranching operation of the year goes into full swing.
Western Montana Odd Fellows and Rebekahs held their annual district convention in Dillon drawing delegates from thirteen Odd Fellow lodges and eleven Rebekah lodges. Thomas McNay of Anaconda was elected president with Anaconda named next year’s meeting place. other officers include Frank Tate Melrose vice president W H Johns Butte secretary and J M Dennis Deer Lodge treasurer. Blanch Leverich and Louise Hoffman were elected other officers. A social session closed the meeting and a resolution urged a $2 yearly assessment for five years to rebuild the Helena Odd Fellows home.
Bruce A Hollister resigns as athletic coach at Montana State Normal college Dillon and will depart at spring term end to study medicine at Northwestern University Chicago. The two year coach helped boost the college as a top Montana minor program and the track team recently beat the School of Mines 87 to 21. Mrs Hollister will join him in Belgrade after his departure.
Philip Lovell and Liston Dan sie were badly cut by flying glass when a car collided with Lovell’s Chrysler coach at Bannack and Montana streets early Sunday. Lovell’s car suffered heavy damage with the left side crushed. responsibility not definitely determined. A Sheridan driver reportedly caused the impact while the other vehicle escaped major damage.
Charm the Senior class play will be presented June 13-14 at the college auditorium. The three act comedy by John Kirkpatrick features Mr. Lester from New York winning Ida May Harper and stirs village life as Joe Pond and Mrs. Harper plot to keep Ida May from New York. Audiences can expect a production built on the play’s unusual plot and prior success on professional stages.
Beaverhead sheepmen finished lambing and began the second major operation of the year with shearing underway after anticipating a bigger harvest than last season.
Bill Galt son of D A Galt manager of Beaverhead Motors Dillon's youngest business man and a rising merchant runs a modern soft drink stand at his father's service station. The stand uses a Liquid Carbonate cooling device serving icy drinks instantly and has become a big hit with tourists and locals.
Senator Muffley Dies at Winston Home Last Friday in Dillon friends mourn his death after a months long illness. Funeral held in Helena with Senator Hazelbaker among honorary pallbearers. Muffley, longtime receiver for the Boston and Montana Mining company, had many local friends.
Mrs Rebecca Freeman, pioneer resident of the county and mother of rancher J Freeman, died suddenly in Los Angeles after a recent arm infection. She had disposed of her property and planned to return to Dillon with her daughter who had been visiting.
High honors diplomas are awarded to Dillon students across the United States. Harold Blinn graduates from the state university at Missoula and will pursue a history fellowship at the University of Minnesota. Annabel Desmond and Maureen Desmond also receive degrees. both noted for four years of outstanding achievement.
A beekeepers convention will be held at Twin Bridges on Sunday June 12 1927 at 10 a m for forming an association to stabilize honey prices and pool supplies. The plan covers Madison Jefferson and Beaverhead counties with all beekeepers invited. Competent speakers have been engaged.
The Dillon city council met last Wednesday in its regular June session. Only routine business was transacted and the following bills were audited and allowed.
Tentative list shows 102 graduates. Commencement Thursday morning June 16 with senior class play Monday and Tuesday. Candle light procession Wednesday night closes the week.
The largest graduating class in the college's history, 102 names, will receive diplomas at the thirtieth annual commencement next Thursday morning, with Judge Lyman H. Bennett as speaker and Chancellor Melvin A. Brannon awarding diplomas.
Thirty rounds of whirlwind action will comprise the Lima fight card on Saturday night under Beaverhead Post No. 20 of the American Legion with J Barner promoting. The main event features Young Dempsey of Helena against Howard Ball of Pocatello, a rematch that thrilled Beaverhead fans a month earlier. The promise of the entire program has drawn over five hundred spectators.
Governors of Montana and Idaho may attend the fiftieth anniversary of the Battle of the Big Hole to open the Salmon road and mark a broader celebration in August. Nez Perce of Lapwai Idaho offered cooperation and may supply battle survivors. Fort Missoula troops may reenact the fight. Ranchers oppose a August 6 start due to harvest.
