Poppy Day Drive Sets City Record in Dillon
Dillon broke its Poppy Day sales record with 1500 poppies sold for a total of 200.01 dollars. Mrs Bert Wilbur led the drive with help from Mrs Glen Lyon Mrs Vic Westergard and other Auxiliary members. Booths operated at the post office two banks and various city shops.

Bond forfeited by man who filed alleged forged deed
Dan Parker, arrested April 24 by Sheriff John Troupe on a charge of filing an alleged forged deed, failed to appear for his hearing and his $1,750 bond was forfeited by Judge Lyman H. Bennett. A bench warrant was issued for Parker. Parker had approached banker W. W. Hawkins with a land purchase proposal, prompting a call to Washington owner William H. Witsters. Parker had posted bond at arraignment before Judge Louis Stahl.

Prominent Dillon Man Dies of Heart Attack
Roscoe Cornell Jr., 69, noted Beaverhead County rancher and former Dillon mayor, died Monday night after a morning heart attack. Born Oct 2, 1873 at the Cornell ranch near Dillon, he was among Beaverhead’s first high school graduates in 1891 and built a long civic record.

Beaverhead War Committee Set To Meet Friday

Wisdom woman dies after childbirth in Butte hospital
Mrs Argle Stevens 28 of Wisdom died Saturday night after a brief illness in a Butte hospital eight days after giving birth to a daughter. Funeral held at Wisdom with Rev Leonard Thompson officiating. Interment in Bristow. Survived by husband two sons a daughter parents and siblings.

Pvt. 1st Class Wallace Wellington of Grant was killed in action in North Africa on May 6 per War Department telegram to his mother Mrs Isabelle Wellington. He trained in California and Camp Pickett Va. He is survived by his mother and father Mr and Mrs William A Wellington a sister Mrs Marjorie Calvine of Dillon a wife in Monterey Calif a brother Roy E Wellington reported missing after Bataan a nephew and a niece. Montana State Normal College closed term with 21 diploma graduates and three bachelor of education candidates Raymond H Snyder spoke urging youth service in a time of need. Candidates were Janet Jean Caras Missoula Wilford George Poppie Hamilton and Estelle J Waldorf Dillon. The program included invocation and beneficence.

Final Rites Held for Pioneer Rancher Milton Bean
Funeral services were held Thursday for Milton Bean a pioneer rancher from the Centennial valley who died May 25 at Barrett hospital. Rev J A Meeke of Grace Methodist church officiated at the Brundage chapel with pallbearers W D Sandy George Roe William Gleed Blaz Lugar Frank Jones and Andy Leake guiding the procession. Burial followed in the Jones cemetery in Centennial valley.

Dance for draftees draws large crowd at city hall
A big audience at the city hall auditorium honored the June draftees and service men on furlough. Nellie Little Poole's orchestra provided music as the contingent was introduced at midnight before leaving for induction in Butte. Proceeds totaled 98.35 with 5.25 in additional contributions and 17.79 more in gifts leaving a 78.76 balance for future parties.
