Bales describes Montana farm life where thirty five healthy girls manage dairy, pig, sheep and poultry operations on uneven land. they receive four year university scholarships and run farm trucks while mastering household arts and planning looms for personal rugs as creeks wind through the property.
The State Vocational School for Girls near Helena uses a nonremedial approach with Miss Edith Kassing guiding 35 girls. The ranch emphasizes freedom, daily farming, cooking, and arts, plus planned trips, housing, and eventual out-of-bounds independence as graduates move on to useful roles.
E M Mosher of Great Falls and A A Franzke of Lewistown purchase the Fergus County Argus from J A Gilluly. Mosher to head the firm, Franzke named editor, with C D Royce staying on as superintendent of the job plant as the Argus expands its quarters and operations.
The Montana legislature appropriated 25000 for crippled children relief and Governor Dixon appointed a five member orthopedic commission. Members include Dr. W G Cogswell Dr C J Pigott Mrs Mary Sales Mills and two women’s clubs appointees. The board will oversee medical surgical and hospital assistance and may hire a field investigator to operate statewide.
