Man Wanted Idaho Falls Nabbed Here in Beaverhead County

Sheriff and police arrested Roswell Ferre after locating him in a Beaverhead County rooming house while hunting a bad check offender. Ferre, identified by an Idaho Falls photo, admitted his identity. County election tallies were finalized with minor changes to totals. Hartwig leads Staudenmeyer for county commissioner and Gilbert edges Schulz for county attorney.

Dillon Youth Adopts New Plan At Rotary Meeting

Jack Gilbert of Dillon, a University of Chicago student, spoke at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner at the Andrue Hotel. He outlined the universitys extended curriculum and comprehensive exams and noted athletics success without subsidies. The program featured two vocal solos by Erlin Richardson with Ralph McFadden on piano, with Prof. Rush Jordan as chairman.

Written-in votes exceed usual totals in county count

The official tally completed last Thursday shows more written-in names than normal. Among notable results, Mildred Schuler of Dillon qualified as a Republican candidate for superintendent of schools with 126 write-ins, while Nell Doyle led for superintendent with 98. Democratic write-ins include Albert Baker 54 for clerk and recorder and O M Best 43 for assessor.

Beaverhead County Primary Vote Tops Two-Thirds

Beaverhead County electors cast about 66 percent in the recent primary election. Official figures from Clerk Albert S Baker show 2,472 ballots from 3,747 registered voters. two years ago turnout was 70 percent. Judges and clerks were paid 612.40 for 1,531 hours of work.

Gov. Joseph B. Poindexter of Hawaii and his son Everton spent several days in Dillon visiting his brothers Dr. F. M. and E. L. Poindexter. The party included Mrs. P. E. Poindexter and daughter Mrs. Samuel Kinder of Los Angeles. He was en route to Honolulu after duties in the states and seldom fails to visit his old home when in the region.

Hazelbaker Wins Republican Nomination for Governor

Frank Hazelbaker topped Robert Pauline by more than two to one in the Montana primary, with 28 069 votes to 11 033 after 1118 precincts. He carried Beaverhead and most counties, prompting widespread support pledges for the general election.

Dillon Nine Open NW Tourney with Loss to Deer Lodge

Dillon's baseball team fell 13 to 1 to Deer Lodge in the opening game of the northwest tournament in Deer Lodge yesterday afternoon. Vandegrift and Davis formed the local battery as the squad faced a large field. Earlier, Dillon also lost 13 to 11 to Sheridan in a high scoring game here Sunday marked by many errors by both sides.

Two Day Rodeo Harvest Festival Planned in Dillon

Plans for a two day rodeo and harvest festival to be held in Dillon on August 22 and 23 were announced. Bob Rooker and Blondie Stewart will manage the event featuring bronc riding calf roping bareback riding steer dogging and other rodeo acts. Dances are set for August 21 and 22. Masked Bandit Robs Beaverhead Beer Parlor Again

A masked man robbed the J. N. Campbell beer parlor in Armstead around midnight taking about $100 from the cash register. Mrs Campbell was threatened with a gun while three ranch laborers were unharmed against a wall before the thief fled in a fast car. The suspect matched the description of the prior Dillon Club bar robber.

New Head High School AG Department Appointed

Dwight Johnson appointed Smith-Hughes instructor at Beaverhead county high school arrives from Grafton North Carolina. Bernard Williams current county agent transferred years ago from Grafton to the local department. Johnson, Montana State College 1926 graduate, will interview students and inspect projects over the coming weeks, accompanied by his wife.

Beaverhead Budget Board Files Preliminary Budget

The Beaverhead county board of commissioners met in a special session to file with the clerk and recorder the preliminary budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget is open for inspection until August 5, when a final budget will be fixed and taxpayers may speak. The board also reviewed school budgets with Superintendent Neil Doyle.
